Montclair is getting more heat just in time for winter! Mezoco, a new Mexican Taqueria serving traditional street food, will have its Grand Opening on Saturday, December 10, from 12 pm – 8 pm at the Walnut Street Train Station at 25 Depot Square.

At the Grand Opening, Mezoco will have a 1000 taco giveaway fundraiser to benefit the Community FoodBank of NJ!  Pay what you think is fair but be as generous as you can going into this holiday season.  Regular business hours will start on Monday December 12.

The restaurant is a partnership of Montclair residents Greg Cuoco, who serves as the Executive Chef, and Dave and Bridget Placek, who happened upon Cuoco’s cooking at a party and were thrilled to find authentic and delicious tacos reminiscent of those Mr. Placek grew up eating in Southern California. Mezoco will be in the newly refurbished kitchen and dining space of 25 Depot Square, shared with the Erie Saloon.

Mezoco’s menu showcases simple, quality-made dishes from fresh ingredients, with tacos as the focal point. Options include spicy chipotle-crusted steak, chicken, carnitas, vegetable and tofu. The restaurant will also serve chicken enchiladas, chicken flautas, quesadillas with queso blanco and caramelized onions, and the chef’s specialty “Peach’s Tacos” — cilantro lime chicken wrapped in a tortilla and lightly fried, served with Peach’s special Mexican tomato sauce and a mound of cheddar cheese . All corn tortillas are made fresh on-site. The menu is entirely gluten-free and any food allergies can be accommodated.

And we can get this project completed in time for Montclair's sesquicentennial when we can stick a fork into historic preservation as a public policy.
