Bob DevosCelebrate another exciting night of virtuoso playing, improvising and interchange when Bob DeVos and his powerhouse all star quartet again return to Trumpets Jazz Club & Restaurant in Montclair for a night of deep blue soul with a contemporary modern jazz sound. This year, Bob reunites with famed tenor saxophonist Bill Easley–between them is the whole history of the organ jazz tradition.

The NJ School of Dramatic Arts Encore Theater Company will presents Spring Awakening this weekend at the Westminster Arts Center in Bloomfield. Spring Awakening is a rock musical with music by Duncan Sheik and a book and lyrics by Steven Sater, based on the German play Spring Awakening from 1891, by Frank Wedekind. The musical is set in late-19th-century Germany, and tells the story of teenagers discovering the inner and outer tumult of teenage sexuality. The original Broadway production won 8 Tony Awards, including Tonys for Best Musical, Direction, Book, Score and Featured Actor, and the original cast album received a Grammy Award.

billy-hectorEnjoy the music of Billy Hector on Saturday night at Tierney’s Tavern.  Whether Billy Hector is teasing you with his sultry slide-work, picking through delta blues, or flat-out cranking it up on his beloved vintage Fender Stratocaster, his playing reflects the true soul and origins of the music; always passionate, engaging and dedicated to making the audience move and groove. Having honed his chops and style through three decades of performances, Hector is recognized as one of the hottest guitarist/songwriters on the circuit and has even been named “a New Jersey State treasure” by some.

Or you can go to Hat City Kitchen in Orange on Saturday night to enjoy the music of Composer/guitarist Steve Girardi. Girardi has been performing his original music in the New York metropolitan area for over 2 decades. His unique sound challenges the traditional boundaries of contemporary jazz. The new group features drum virtuoso Mark Graham, bassist Kevin Brown, keyboardist and percussionist Greg Federico and world renowned bassist/cellist Mike Richmond. The group has performed in numerous metropolitan venues such as NJPAC, 55 Bar, Cornelia Street Cafe, Hat City Kitchen and Maxwell’s.
