Montclair’s own Aidan Dowell will be a competitor on next week’s Chopped Jr, airing Wednesday March 1 at 8pm on Food Network.

Aidan is a 7th grader in House Lofrano at Glenfield Middle School. He prepared to compete on Chopped, Jr. by taking cooking lessons with Karan Fischer of Montclair Culinary Academy.

Aidan competes in a music-themed episode (entitled “Turn Up the Beet”), and Misty Copeland is one of the judges.

In addition to his cooking skills, Aidan also plays trumpet with Glenfield’s Jazz Band, was a member of Drums of Thunder at Hillside, and takes piano at Watchung Music Studio.

Tune in to see how Aidan handles beets and octopus on Chopped, Jr.!

Stopped by on opening day to take out a dozen empanadas. Very welcoming space, especially with the storefront glass open on a warm spring day and sidewalk tables available; and, the staff were warm and engaged. The empanadas are soft and pastry-like, rather than the harder crisper type. They got a thumbs up from the Morales family, who loves them a good empanada!
