Happy weekend! There are so many things to do around town and beyond. Here’s a sampling of the family-friendly events in our area.

Jenkinson’s Boardwalk (300 Ocean Avenue, Point Pleasant Beach) will host two Family Date Nights on Friday and Saturday evenings from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Spend the weekend before Valentine’s Day with an evening of family fun. A package for four ($49.95) includes admission for four to Jenkinson’s Aquarium, a plain pizza and a pitcher of soda at the Pavilion, a $10 PlayCard for the Pavilion Arcade, and 4 treats from the Sweet Shop. Additional family members are $10 each which includes aquarium admission and a treat from the Sweet Shop.

On Saturday, NJPAC (1 Center Street, Newark) will host two performances of Peter & the Wolf with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra. Each character in Prokofiev’s classic tale is represented by a specific theme and instrument, making this a wonderful introduction to the instruments of the orchestra, as well as a charming story. Tickets are $10-$20 per person. Performances are at 2:00 PM and 3:30 PM.

Make a tiny book at The Creativity Caravan (28 South Fullerton Avenue, Montclair) on Saturday. Drop in any time between 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM and plan on spending at least an hour to design and author a unique gift for a loved one. A few different styles will be available to choose from, and all the paper and supplies are included. Cost is $ 10 per person.

Just Kidding at Symphony Space (2537 Broadway, NYC) will present Galumpha on Saturday at 11:00 AM. This performance features stunning acrobatics, striking visual effects, physical comedy and inventive choreography. With only three performers, you’ll be amazed by the endless creative possibilities. Tickets are $17 ($14 for members). Expected run time is 60 minutes.

On Sunday (and most Sundays through March 12), enjoy an afternoon of guided snowshoeing on the trails of Pyramid Mountain NHA (473 Boonton Avenue, Montville Twp). Use your own showshoes or rent a pair. No experience is necessary. This event is free and for children ages 10 and up with their adult companions. Preregistration is required.

Also on Sunday, the Montclair History Center (110 Orange Road, Montclair) will host its Second Sunday Family FUNday from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. This month’s theme is Our Presidents. Discover how our past presidents and their families lived using crafts and hands-on activities. There will be a scavenger hunt, a weaving demonstration, and you can make a log cabin and play-act George Washington’s Rules of Civility by the hearth fire. Admission is $10 per family.

Maple Sugaring Demonstrations continue this weekend at the Great Swamp Outdoor Education Center (247 Southern Blvd., Chatham Township). Learn about the process of maple sugaring, identify and tap maple trees, collect sap, and make syrup over a wood-fired evaporator. Demonstrations are one hour in length and begin at 1:00 PM and 2:30 PM on Saturday and Sunday. Cost is $3 per person age 3 and up. No registration is required but seating is first come, first served.

Also on Sunday, stop by Montclair Art Museum for Drop-In Studio between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM. The new Helen & Bill Geyer Art Studio will be stocked with a range of art materials to explore with a seasoned MAM studio instructor. This is free for members and included in Museum admission for non-members.
