This week in crime from D/Lt. David O’Dowd, Montclair Police Department:
04-19-2017 (Park Street) Mr. James McCagg, 65yoa from Montclair, was arrested and charged with DWI.
04-21-2017 – A 15yoa Montclair juvenile was arrested and charged with Obstruction, Filing a False Police Report, and False Swearing for reporting to police that he was the victim of an armed robbery with a handgun on 04-08-2017 in the area of Mid Park Lane. This report initiated an investigation, which revealed the incident was in fact fabricated.
04-21-2017 (CVS, Valley Road) Ms. Gretchen MacBride, 69yoa from Montclair, was arrested and charged with shoplifting items from the store.
04-22-2017 (Upper Mountain Avenue) Officers responded to a report of a disabled vehicle. The vehicle was missing a tire and had heavy damage to the front end. When officers approached the vehicle, they observed a silver handgun on the front passenger seat. Officers attempted to place the operator, Mr. Rasheed Williams (35yoa from Irvington) under arrest, when a struggle ensued. Additional officers arrived and were successful in handcuffing Mr. Williams. Williams was charged with Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose, Resisting Arrest, and DWI. It is unknown what Williams struck with his vehicle to cause such extensive damage.
04-22-2017 (Bloomfield Avenue)Mr. Franklin Maytidu, 45yoa from Montclair, was arrested and charged with Disorderly Persons for engaging in a physical altercation in the street and refusing to comply with officers orders. No injuries were reported.
04-22-2017 (Park Street) Mr. David Blakely, 27yoa from Montclair, was arrested on an open warrant out of Montclair.
04-23-2017 (South Mountain Avenue) Mr. Damani Weeks, 24yoa from Orange, was arrested following a motor vehicle stop. Officers and Detectives recovered two loaded handguns and narcotics from this vehicle. Mr. Weeks was charged with Weapons and CDS Offenses.
04-23-2017 (North Fullerton Avenue) Mr. Willie Brown, 58yoa from Montclair, was arrested and charged with three counts of Criminal Attempt Burglary for attempting to enter three vehicles in the area. He was also charged with Weapon Possession for having a serrated knife on his person during the commission of these acts. Through investigation, Mr. Brown was additionally charged with Burglary and Theft for breaking into St. Luke’s Church on 04-22-2017 and stealing cash from the church office. He was also charged with another count of Criminal Attempt Burglary for attempting to enter a vehicle on The Crescent on 04-23-2017.
04-18-2017 (Marion Road) Burglary to a residence. It appears that juveniles entered the residence and had a party while the homeowners were away. The home was left in disarray.
04-20-2017 (Park Street) Theft of a purse from an unlocked motor vehicle.
04-20-2017 (Undercliff Drive) Burglary to a residence. Entry was gained through an unlocked rear door. Cash was taken from a pocketbook left on the kitchen table.
04-21-2017 (North Fullerton Avenue) Theft of cash from a motor vehicle. The passenger window was smashed in order to gain access.
04-21-2017 (Valley Road) Burglary to an unlocked detached garage. A power-tool and liquor were taken.
04-22-2017 (Claremont Avenue) The passenger side windows of three vehicles were smashed. Nothing was reported missing in these incidents.
04-22-2017 (Orange Road) Theft from an unlocked motor vehicle. A bag containing miscellaneous items was taken.
04-22-2017 (Madison Avenue) An unlocked motor vehicle was entered. Nothing was reported missing.
04-22-2017 (Church Street) The side window of a vehicle was smashed. Nothing was reported missing.
04-22-2017 (Afterglow Way) Theft from an unlocked motor vehicle. Cash was taken in this incident.
04-22-2017 (Parkhurst Place) Burglary to a residence. It appears that juveniles entered the residence and had a party while the homeowners were away. The home was left in disarray. A gate lock was broken to gain access to the rear yard and residence.
04-22-2017 (St. Luke’s Church, South Fullerton Avenue) Burglary to the church offices. A window was broken to gain entry. Cash was taken in this incident. (Mr. Willie Brown was later arrested and charged in connection with this incident)
04-22-2017 (The Crescent) An unlocked motor vehicle was entered. Nothing was reported taken. (Mr. Willie Brown was later arrested and charged in connection with this incident)
04-23-2017 (Trinity Place) A vehicle window was smashed. Cash and loose change were taken.
04-18-2017 (Claremont Avenue) A rock was thrown through a parked vehicle window. It does not appear that anything was taken in this incident.
04-22-2017 (Valley Road) The front windows of Ashtanga Yoga and Sunshine Sam’s Toy Store were discovered to have been smashed overnight. The suspect is described as a White or Hispanic male, approximately 5’10-6’0” tall, between 20-30 years old, medium build with dark hair, wearing a white short sleeved t-shirt, black pants, and carrying a black back pack.
