Weekend Family Highlights: Camel Rides, Open Cockpit Weekend, Arts & Crafts Fair, Street Fair and More!

Happy Father’s Day weekend! We’ve rounded up some fun and family-friendly things to do in the area. Check ‘em out!

 

This weekend, Turtle Back Zoo (560 Northfield Avenue, West Orange) will offer Father’s Day Camel Rides. Instead of riding a pony, take a ride on a camel! Camels will be available Friday through Sunday, from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Cost is $7 per ride after regular zoo admission.

 

The Aviation Hall of Fame of New Jersey (400 Fred Wehran Drive, Teterboro) will host an Open Cockpit Weekend on Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The display includes a variety of aircraft. Get an up-close look at these planes, helicopters, and more. Admission is $10 for adults and $8 for children and seniors. Access to the museum is included.

 

 
The 29th Annual Spring Fine Art and Crafts at Brookdale Park show will be held on Saturday and Sunday in Brookdale Park (473 Watchung Avenue, Montclair and Bloomfield). Open from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, rain or shine, this event features over 150 fine artists and craftspeople sharing their work. Face painting will be available. Admission is free.

 

Barnes & Noble at Clifton Commons (395 Route 3 East, Clifton) will host a Father’s Day Storytime on Saturday at 11:00 AM. When Dads Don’t Grow Up by Marjorie Blain Parker is a playful book that follows four father-child pairs as they spend time together. Activities will follow.
 

Glen Ridge Public Library (240 Ridgewood Avenue, Glen Ridge) will host a Lego Day from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Stop in and build with their huge Lego collection.
 

Also on Saturday, enjoy a Family Walk at the Great Swamp Outdoor Education Center (247 Southern Blvd, Chatham). The walk begins at 10:00 AM and lasts for one hour. Discover the unique animals and plants. Preregistration is required by calling 973-635-6629. The cost is $2 per person age 3 and up.
 

Saturday is Dairy Day at Fosterfields Living Historical Farm (73 Kahdena Road, Morris Township) from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM. Meet the Jersey cows who love visitors, then help with cream separating and butter churning. At 3:30 PM, watch a cow milking demonstration. Cost is $6 per adult, $5 per senior, $4 per child age 4-16, $2 per child age 2 and 3, and free for children under age 2.
 

On Sunday, celebrate Dad with a Father’s Day Walk at Great Swamp Outdoor Education Center (247 Southern Blvd, Chatham). This easygoing family walk will be led by a naturalist who will discuss the amazing lives of wild animal dads. This one-hour walk begins at 10:00 AM. Cost is $3 per person age 3 and up. Preregistration is required by calling 973-635-6629.
 

Nutley’s Annual Father’s Day Street Fair will be held on Sunday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM along Franklin Avenue. The event will feature over 100 exhibitors, great food, kiddie rides, pony rides, local merchants and civic organizations. There will be a variety of food vendors as well. Enjoy live entertainment all day long.
 

Also on Sunday, stop by Montclair Art Museum for Drop-In Studio between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM. The new Helen & Bill Geyer Art Studio will be stocked with a range of art materials to explore with a seasoned MAM studio instructor. This is free for members and included in Museum admission for non-members.
