Weekend Family Fun: Three Musketeers, Family Art Adventure, Ice Cream Sunday

The weekend has arrived! There are so many fun things to do as a family in and around the area! We’ve rounded them up right here for you. Take a look!

Sweet Soles (255 Bellevue Avenue, Montclair) will celebrate its Grand Opening on Saturday from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Sweet Soles customized and proper shoe fittings for kids. Stop in for face painting, balloon-making, and “Sweet Ice Queen” Ice Cream Truck from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM.

Barnes & Noble at Clifton Commons (395 Route 3 East, Clifton) will host a Pig the Pug and Pig the Winner Storytime on Saturday at 11:00 AM. These stories follow Pig the Pug as he learns lessons and pals around with his friend Trevor. Quirky illustrations accompany these relatable stories. Activities to follow the story.

On Saturday, Montclair Art Museum (3 South Mountain Avenue, Montclair) will host their monthly Family Art Adventure from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM. Explore and discuss artwork and participate in a hands-on project in the studio. This activity is for children ages 6-12 and their adult companions. Reservations are not required. Cost is $18 per family for non-members and $6 per family for members.

Essex County Environmental Center (621B Eagle Rock Avenue, Roseland) will host a Butterfly Tent Safari on Saturday from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Suitable for all ages, all are welcome to make-and-take a butterfly craft and participate in table activities, as well visit the live butterfly tent.

Also on Saturday, visit Caroline’s Special Place: Cottage Garden at Fosterfields Living Historical Farm (73 Kahdena Road, Morris Township). Take a walk through Caroline Foster’s Cottage Garden, and enjoy its colorful flowers. Then make a family-friendly craft Cost is $6 per adult, $5 per senior, $4 per child age 4-16, $2 per child age 2 & 3, and free for children under age 2.

Children of all ages (with an accompanying adult) are invited to Cooper Gristmill (66 State Route 24, Chester) for Nature Art. Use grain and natural items to create artwork. Explore painting, printmaking, rubbings, and collage/mosaic while designing items to take home.

Kingsland Manor, Nutley, N.J.

On Sunday, stop in to Kingsland Manor (3 Kingsland Street, corner of Lakeside Drive, Nutley), a 1700s brownstone in the Dutch colonial style, for Ice Cream Sunday from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Explore the Homestead of the Kingsland Family, enjoy refreshments, and celebrate the 100th anniversary of jazz. Admission is free, though donations are greatly appreciated.

The Classical Theatre of Harlem will continue its run of The Three Musketeers at Marcus Garvey Park at the Richard Rogers Ampitheatre (124th Street and Fifth Avenue, Harlem). This classic adventure based on the 19th century book by Alexandre Dumas is suitable for all ages. Join D’Artagnan and the Musketeers as they fight to protect the ones they love from Cardinal Richelieu. The show is free and open to the public. Performances will run through Tuesday to Sunday through July 30th beginning at 8:00 PM (8:30 PM on Fridays).

MOMIX, a company of dancer-illusionists, will perform “Opus Cactus” on Saturday at 2:00 PM and 8:00 PM, and on Sunday at 2:00 PM and 7:30 PM at The Joyce Theater (175 Eighth Avenue at 19th Street, NYC). This is the final weekend for this show. The performance is a cross of dance, circus and theater, where the performers transform into animals, insects, cacti, the sun, and more. This family friendly show is suitable for children ages 7 and up. There are additional performances through July 16th. Tickets range in price from $10 to $66 and can be purchased online at The Joyce Theater Website.
