Montclair Councilwoman Renee Baskerville Named to Governor-Elect Murphy's Healthcare Committee

Councilwoman Renee Baskerville, MD, has been named to serve on Governor-elect Phil Murphy’s transition team on the Healthcare Committee. During the course of the next two months, Dr. Baskerville will participate in making recommendations on healthcare policy issues and initiatives as the new administration prepares to take office.

“I am privileged and humbled to have been asked by Governor-elect Murphy to serve on the Health Committee of his transition team,” said Dr. Baskerville. “I am honored to join such an august body of colleagues. I possess three decades of service as a physician, healer, education and wellness advocate and policy shaper at the local, state and federal levels. I am eager to bring to this privileged service, my passion, experiences in providing medical services to infants, children, adolescents and families throughout Essex County, and policy shaping from the vantage of a community activist, school board member, city councilor, state health and wellness policy advocate, and a member of the Congressional Black Caucus Health Brain Trust for two decades.

Dr. Baskerville stated that her goal is to “build on the good things going on in our state, such as, school boards increasingly moving toward integrating school-based health care and wellness centers, rethinking the quality of the food in cafeterias and vending machines, the amount of exercise students are getting, and to enhance these initiatives using promising practices from across the state and the nation.”

“I want to ensure that in the state of New Jersey every child has what the Children’s Defense Fund has defined as, ‘a healthy start, head start, a fair start, a safe start, and a moral start in life.’”

  1. Here is her plan, a Doctor and politican for decades her answer is … tax the rich and give to “poor” people.

  2. She’s done a great job spending tax payer dollars here and putting politics above doing the right thing. She is a perfect fit for the Murphy team. He also named Shepard to the education transition team. It’s one big happy tax and spend party in Trenton and Montclair is happy to help.
