Essex County Exec Joseph DiVincenzo, Jr. Will Seek 5th Term, Kicks Off Re-Election Campaign

Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. kicked off his re-election campaign for Essex County Executive in the Essex County Veterans Memorial Park in Newark on Monday. Among those endorsing DiVincenzo were U.S. Senators Robert Menendez and Cory Booker, Governor-Elect Phil Murphy, Lt. Governor-Elect Sheila Oliver, NJ State Senate President Steve Sweeney, Newark Mayor Ras Baraka and Essex County Democratic Committee Chairman Leroy Jones. “It is humbling and an honor to have received the public’s confidence to serve as Essex County Executive all these years. With their support, we have transformed Essex, but there is still more that I would like to accomplish to benefit our residents,” he said. “Putting Essex County First has been more than just a slogan. For me, it is a reminder of why I became an elected official and an inspiration to continue our work on behalf of our 800,000 Essex County residents,” DiVincenzo noted.

“Our work has touched every segment of our residents’ lives. Our bond rating has been upgraded 16 times and is now Aa1 – just one step from the highest financial rating. Our parks have been revitalized and our open space roster has been expanded from 17 parks to 23. County facilities and infrastructure has been modernized to prepare us for the future and provide the safest conditions for our residents. Essential services to help those in need continue to be provided and delivered in more efficient ways,” DiVincenzo said. “All of this is the result of an unprecedented spirit of cooperation we have fostered with our 22 municipalities, park conservancies and community groups. We hope to continue those partnerships as we move ahead during the next four years,” he added.

Representatives from National, State, County and Local government were on hand to show their support of DiVincenzo.

“Look at the diversity of the people who are here today the diversity of the people Joe surrounds himself with every day. This is a credit for what you have done,” Governor-Elect Phil Murphy said. “Joe D. has learned government from the ground up. He has done a tremendous job, and the best way to describe it is his tenacity,” Lt. Governor-Elect Sheila Oliver said.

“It is an honor to support your re-election. Joe, you have improved the fiscal health of Essex County, are committed to open space and the work that is accomplished on a daily basis is a credit to your leadership,” Freeholder Vice President and Montclair Democratic Chair Brendan Gill said. “Things have happened in Essex County because of Joe’s perseverance. He is the reason that I am proud to be part of Essex County government,” Sheriff Armando Fontoura said.
