Love playing darts at the bar with friends? Now you can do it with axes! Baristaville is getting its own axe throwing establishment, Bury The Hatchet.

Yes, axe throwing is a thing, and we can thank Canada, where the sport has been all the rage for the last 10 years or so. Bury The Hatchet will be opening soon in Bloomfield, joining similar establishments in Brooklyn and others opening all over (Bury The Hatchet already has two NJ locations in Cherry Hill and Matawan.)

Coming soon to #Bloomfield!! #fun #byob

According to Bury The Hatchet’s FAQs, throwing a hatchet is safe, provided you follow safety rules and use common sense (and since Bury The Hatchet is also BYOB, we will add — stay sober). The throwing arena is overseen by trained staff who monitor throws for safety; all participants must go through a safety course before entering the throwing arena. Here’s more from Bury The Hatchet about the actual experience:

Experience the thrill of launching an axe at a wooden target and hitting the bull’s-eye! You and your best mates will spend two hours becoming intimate with a 1.5lb piece of whirling wood and metal as you learn, practice, and ultimately play in an axe throwing tournament. Our staff of trained professionals will coach you on how to safely handle and throw a hatchet with accuracy, while giving you tips on how to capture the coveted Bulls-eye! Then you’ll face off against an opposing team in a tournament style game similar to darts…except with axes! Our big screen TVs keep score of the game so you can focus on what’s important – winning!

Please bring government issued ID and wear CLOSED toe shoes.
