The Montclair Branch NAACP will hold its 10th Annual Membership Luncheon on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at 2:00 P.M., at the Atrium located in the Montclair High School Annex (entrance is from the parking lot on North Fullerton Ave.)
This event, a multifaceted program, will pay tribute to leaders both past and present who have upheld the legacy of this great institution and to convey an immense sense of pride, respect, admiration and gratitude for their acts of courage, commitment, and resolve.
The luncheon will feature performances of original work from the student members of the NAACP Youth Council ranging from artistic design, song, dance, spoken word, and video production. Many of these students are involved in the Montclair High School Social Justice Institute and will showcase their talent and share the challenges that inhibit tolerance, or healthy and productive attitudes about others.
“The NAACP leadership has conducted a tremendous outreach to embrace students from elementary, middle and high school to respond to the negative effects of discrimination based on race, gender, or national origin and indeed they have. We applaud the educators involved in the Social Justice Institute for the influence that it has had on these student,” according to Marcia Brewington, Chairperson of the NAACP Membership Committee one of the event organizers.
Albert Pelham, President of the Montclair Branch NAACP stated that “if we expect our young leaders to be successful, we must give them a forum in which to express themselves. I am extremely proud of the Membership Committee for embracing the youth in such a way that they understand the importance of responding to political, social and educational obstacles that will remain ‘obstacles’ unless and until we speak to inherent wrongs.”
Tickets to the Membership Luncheon are $55 adults, $35.00 youth, both of which include a one year membership. A Subscribing Life membership ticket is also available for $100.00.
