The Black Student Union, in conjunction with the Natural Hair Project, requests your attendance at a special event — Afrocentricity: Black Girl, You Are Beautiful! This event is scheduled to take place Tuesday, June 5th from 6:30 to 8 PM at Montclair High School, 100 Chestnut Street (in the LGI).
The event is a conversation and presentation on Young Black Womanhood and Self-Love; all students are encouraged and welcomed to attend. This event is sponsored by the Black Student Union in partnership with the Natural Hair Project, another Afrocentric extracurricular club at Montclair High School.
There will be a special guest performance by Bindi Liebowitz, a former contestant on NBC’s hit show “The Voice” during the event. There will be raffle gifts donated by local Montclair businesses such as Taqueria, Jaipure Yoga studio, New Nails 2000, and more.
Kimoni DePass, a member of the executive board of the MHS Black Student Union, says that although Black Student Unions (BSU) are common at college campuses around the country, Montclair High School is one of only a few schools in the area to have a BSU at the high school level.
“We have some amazing speakers lined up to present, including but not limited to therapist, authors, entrepreneurs, corporate business leaders, and more,” says DePass. “All of our presenters are strong, successful, beautiful women of African descent.”
