Sisters Alison Meade and Dana Bachan opened Tiny Elephant, a bakery/cafe space attached to Watchung Booksellers, back in 2014.

Now the two sisters have made a decision to close. Here’s the announcement Tiny Elephant made on social media.

“This experience has been more then we could ever have imagined, and we are honored to have served this amazing community for the past 4 years. We have been part of hundreds of family celebrations, and we have met countless friends and mentors along the way. It has been a difficult decision, but we will be permanently closing our cafe doors on June 1st. We would like to thank each of you for your continued support throughout the years. We feel truly blessed to have had this experience and we are sure it will lead to new adventures.

Don’t worry, we are not going away completely. Dana will continue to take custom cake and cookie orders on a limited basis. Details coming soon….”

  1. Great food, great coffee, and a great environment. We know families stopped attending because none had waitstaffs that could get their order right. We personally went multiple times and were probably 0-10 on getting what we ordered. So sad when a place with such good potential comes so close to greatness. This place will be missed. 🙁

  2. Ate there several times over the years and NEVER had a problem with wait staff not getting the orders correct? Food was always very good!
Maybe the location was just not high traffic or visible enough?
Hopefully Alison and Dana will open another restaurant in the area soon!

  3. Like you, dogpersone, I never had an issue with either personnel or food. I guess some people are flat out unlucky. 0 – 10, imagine that.
