Baristanet Profile: Casey Carpenter

Name: Casey Carpenter

Where do you live? Montclair, NJ

When did you move there?

I moved here 20 years ago, scared to buy a house by myself. The best realtor ever assured me to have faith in myself, that I was ready to be a homeowner. Applying the Law of Attraction while we searched…I’d drive from my Jersey City apartment every Saturday morning, buy The Montclair Times and sit outside Starbucks (now Whole Foods) and “act as if” I were a resident. My mantra was “To buy in a town, you have to already act as if you’re a community member in that town.” The ideal home I bought has the features I envisioned – it’s three blocks from the train station, has a fireplace and a fence so my dog played safely. It also is situated in the most caring community of brilliant, creative, and progressive people that I’ve ever met.

Where did you grow up? I grew up in Teaneck, NJ, in nearby Bergen County. I’m an only child, so my friends mean everything to me.

How do you make a living? OR What is your everyday passion?

I’m CEO of my own firm, The Sales Breakthrough Coach. I work with leaders at the intersection of public speaking, leadership, and sales, to craft messages that truly land, and to coach them on their presence. I have a passion for supporting women business leaders in getting heard, seen and noticed in the workplace. My book, Introverts in Sales: Turn Your Peaceful Power into a Profitable Selling Machine, is a step-by-step assertiveness guide for those who need to demonstrate a bigger business presence. I am also a Rising Tide Capital business coach, and work with inner city entrepreneurs in all phases of pitching, growing their sales, leadership, and client retention. Besides that, I have a line of handcrafted jewelry and felted wear, Red Earth Wearable Art, featured at the Eclectic Chic Boutique in downtown Montclair.

Coffee, tea or … ? Decaf almond milk latté, please! And it’s soooo good when Java Love puts a little lavender or rose syrup in there! Mmmmm!

What’s your idea of a perfect weekend day?

Sleeping in till about 8 AM, heading over to the golf driving range (I took up golf last year, love it, and have made a pact to learn something new and exciting every year). Once I’ve worked up an appetite, come back and have lunch at MishMish outdoors, under the umbrella. Then, because this is a “perfect day” and money is no object, a trip to Barbara Eclectic, Dem Two Hands, and Chez Renee where I buy armfuls of gorgeous clothing and accessories. After that, dinner at Samba, and let’s pretend the Art Walk is this day. I walk with friends to all the galleries and places that art is displayed. We stop for wine at Amanti Vino, sit outdoors and hear the musicians playing from Center Stage. What a perfect day

What’s your favorite local restaurant? MishMish. Everything that Chef Meny touches is delicious.

What’s on your nightstand?

A motivational quote about the types of clients that I attract. It’s my handwriting on a beautiful floral greeting card. It says, “I attract dynamic and fun clients who are ready for change. I serve and facilitate amazing transformations. My cup is full.”

What are you listening to? Prince, “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.” That song is poignant. Prince’s guitar solo is iconic.

What are your current indulgences? Trader Joe’s Organic Kettle Potato Chips and Trader Joe’s Gluten Free cupcakes!

What talent you would most like to have?

I’d like to be a rainmaking machine in my business, serving women, traveling the world, and earning crazy money so that I could start a foundation and give a great deal of it away. I want to be a rainmaker because then I will have grown the business myself and I could teach others how to do it.

What’s the worst-kept (or best-kept!) secret about Montclair?

The streets where there are no parking meters! And I’ll not reveal here where I like to park for free!

What do you hope they say about you at your funeral?

That she loved to dance; loved dogs, adored helping others and volunteered her time like crazy to the causes she believed in – the Montclair Art Museum, Morris Chamber, and National Speakers association Board of Directors. She loved fiercely and was loyal to her friends…and would fight for them to the death!
