Kid Volunteers Needed for Montclair’s Fourth of July Parade

Kids, ages 9 and up, are needed for Montclair’s Fourth of July Parade to march and carry banners along the parade route. Volunteers will receive a t-shirt, a coupon to Applegate Farm and earn their school community service hours.

Parents should register their children with the Montclair Recreation Department at by calling 509-4915 to volunteer by July 3.

Volunteers must be available from 9:45 AM to 1:00 PM on Wednesday, July 4,and be able to walk the parade route from South Fullerton and Bloomfield avenues to Edgemont Park.

The Montclair 150th anniversary-themed parade begins at 11:00 AM and moves along a 1.6-mile route traveling west on Bloomfield Avenue to Midland Avenue, continuing to Watchung Avenue, west to Valley Road and ending at Edgemont Park, the site of the town picnic. The parade is a rain or shine event and will feature sesquicentennial themed floats and performances by the Fralinger String Band of the Philadelphia Mummers, the Lesbian & Gay Big Apple Corps, St. Columcille United Gaelic Pipe Band, Essex and Union County Marching Band, Wayne Raiders Drum & Bugle Corps and plenty more spectacular performances.

The parade will be followed by by an expanded family picnic at Edgemont Park from 12:00 to 4:00 PM and will feature free carousel rides, live music, a magic show and much more.

This year’s fireworks display will take place at Yogi Berra Stadium on Montclair State University campus. The stadium admission fee is $3 per person or $10 for a family (family = up to 6 people; $2 per person beyond 6), free for kids ages 5 and under. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. Free parking will be available at the Carparc Diem deck, adjacent to Floyd Hall Arena and at the Red Hawk parking deck. Overflow vehicles will be directed to other parking areas. (Please note: concessions will be available; no outside food, water or other drinks may be brought into the stadium.)
