Montclair Public Library Foundation is thrilled to be awarded a grant from Partners for Health Foundation to continue a summer feeding program for Montclair’s youth. Lunch @ the Library is the result of an incredible collaboration between Montclair Public Library, Partners for Health Foundation and Toni’s Kitchen.
In its second year, this program is meeting a real need in the Montclair community as evidenced by the 2,300 lunches served last summer. Six out of 10 schools in the Montclair District are Title 1 schools and 13.5% of the district participate in no or low cost school lunch.
Toni’s Kitchen will provide a healthy brown bag lunch which will include a sandwich, fruit and a dessert. Lunches will be served Monday through Friday from June 25-August 31. No applications are necessary to drop in and all children and teens are welcome.
”Providing free lunches to children during the summer break months is another way your public library strives to serve our community,” stated Library Director Peter Coyl. “We are proud to be able to offer this very important necessity to the youngest in our community.”
Libraries buzz with children all season long, especially as they become a school’s replacement for summertime learning through popular reading programs. The lunch, along with positive enrichment activities, will help ensure kids return to school healthy and ready to learn.
