Montclair Community Pre-K Reaccredited By The National Association For The Education Of Young Children

The Montclair Community Pre-K (MCPK) is pleased to announce they have received reaccreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). As one of only a few early childhood providers in New Jersey to achieve NAEYC accreditation, this designation affirms the Montclair Community Pre-K’s continued commitment to providing high-quality early childhood education.

The NAEYC Accreditation program is voluntary and intended to identify exemplary early childhood education programs across the country. To maintain accreditation the MCPK is required to maintain compliance with NAEYC Early Learning Program Standards and participate in an extensive evaluation process including a two-day site visit to assess the program and evaluate attainment of standards. “The NAEYC Accreditation of Early Learning Program commends Montclair Community Pre-K for its efforts in maintaining and renewing NAEYC Accreditation,” said Kristen Johnson, Senior Director, NAEYC Accreditation of Early Learning Programs. “Your dedication and commitment to quality improvements by re-engaging in the NAEYC Accreditation system is remarkable.”

As part of the accreditation process the MCPK was evaluated in 10 program standards including relationships, curriculum, teaching, assessment of children, health, teachers, families, community relationships, physical environment and leadership and management. In meeting these standards, the MCPK received a 100% rating in eight of the 10 standards and an average of 98% rating for the group observation and classroom portfolios.

The MCPK received high compliments in many areas including curriculum and teaching. The assessment concluded that the MCPK teachers use culturally and linguistically appropriate teaching methods that enhance learning and development as well as implement age appropriate curricula that promote learning and social, emotional, physical, language, and cognitive development. “We are very proud of the work and dedication of our teachers,” said Carolyn DeVito, the MCPK Assistant Executive Director. “This accomplishment affirms our mission to provide a high-quality, warm, welcoming, and supportive educational experience for our students and their families.”

The MCPK offers all three- to five-year olds in Montclair a preschool education that prepares them for success in kindergarten and beyond, regardless of the family’s ability to pay tuition. Highlights of the MCPK program include related arts education, a dual-language immersion Spanish/English classroom option for all ages, and STEAM programming. In order to meet the needs of busy families, the MCPK provides flexible scheduling options including extended care, after school enrichment classes and a punch card system for drop-in extended care.
