Update: 5 p.m.): Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Montclair Police Chief Todd Conforti announced today that the Montclair Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force are investigating a fatal pedestrian incident.
At approximately 6:30 a.m. today a male was struck and killed while crossing Bloomfield Avenue near Lloyd Road in Montclair. The victim has been identified as Samson Hum, 52, of Montclair. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:01 a.m.
He was hit by two cars — a Ford Focus and a Jeep Wrangler. Both drivers remained at the scene. At this time no one has been charged.
The investigation is active and ongoing. Additional details will be released as they become available.

Police closed part of Bloomfield Avenue to traffic this morning after a fatal pedestrian accident Wednesday morning near Montclair Kimberley Academy.
Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the fatal accident where an adult male was struck and killed, Katherine Carter, ECPO spokesperson confirmed. The identity of the victim has not yet been released. All parties involved remained at the scene, Carter confirmed.
In 2017, 42 pedestrians were hit and injured in Montclair, according to a report by the Montclair Pedestrian Safety Committee.
In 2009, a Montclair man was killed not far from this morning’s accident scene, when he was struck while crossing Bloomfield Avenue at the Montclair-Verona border.
