Where do you live? Montclair…the Fieldstone Neighborhood.
When did you move there? We just moved here! After 12 years in our previous home in Bloomfield, we made the leap. It was only 1½ miles, but it feels huge!
Where did you grow up? I grew up in Sharon, Massachusetts. It is a very small town in between Boston and Providence.
How do you make a living? OR What is your everyday passion? I am the Owner of Sunshine Sam. It is a toy, game and lifestyle brand. We specialize in electronics-free toys and games and artisan items. Our goal is to make people smile with our curated products and remind people to play, especially adults! I am also partners with Wendy Lacey in The General Store at Cornerstone Montclair and a Mission Partner at Cornerstone. I love my title there. It is “Curator of Fun.”
Coffee, tea or … ? Tea. At night to relax. But, I do enjoy meeting friends for coffee. Usually, iced coffee. Even in the winter.
What’s your idea of a perfect weekend day? Right now I’m in nesting mode in the new house. I’d love to work at the store for a few hours then come home and decorate the house and continue getting settled in. I have so many design ideas I want to put into action! I love hearing my husband, Steve, and son, Sam, yelling at the tv while they watch sports or talking about something silly. They both have the best laughs. Just listening to them cracks me up and makes me happy. Then, I’d end the day with having friends over for dinner and games on the patio, with our Pugs, CeCe and Chloe, chilling at our feet.
What’s your favorite local restaurant? This is a tough one, because I am not a foodie. I love the pumpkin bread at Little Daisy, and I could eat anything on the menu at Marcel. Their empenadas are sooo good. Fancy dining is wasted on me.
What’s on your nightstand? I just got a new nightstand with drawers so that I would have very little on top of it, actually. Right now there’s a lamp and a basket of magazines and catalogs. I love catalogs.
What are you listening to? I just started listening to the Podcast “My Favorite Murder”. It’s an “out of the box” choice for me, but I’m hooked.
What are your current indulgences? The part of me that loves interior design is having so much fun scouring cool blogs for ideas for the house…wallpaper, indoor trees, and art. I’m really relishing the opportunity to create a fresh new space for my family. And, at this time of year, anything that’s chocolate and peppermint is hard for me to resist.
What talent you would most like to have? I wish I could paint. It would be so cool to be an artist.
What’s the worst-kept (or best-kept!) secret about Montclair? The talent of the people who live here is mind blowing. Everyone has such a cool story. I’m lucky I get to meet so many people through the store.
What do you hope they say about you at your funeral? That I was a good Mother, Wife and Friend. And, that I was always kind.
