Say Goodbye To Gina’s – Bakery On Walnut Closing Today

It’s the end of a tradition for many Gina’s Bakery customers, as the beloved bakery on Walnut closes its doors today at 1 p.m.

Famous for its Thanksgiving pies, flaky scones, Bûche de Noël, breads and those incredible brioche doughnuts, Gina’s Bakery will definitely be missed.

Bakery employees told Baristanet that the owner wanted to retire and has sold the business, but they were not sure if the new owner would continue to run a bakery in the spot.

Montclair is spoiled for choice when it comes to baked goods. Just a few steps away from Gina’ on Walnut are two more bakeries, Cucina 98, and more recently, Layers of Flavors. Around the corner, Montclair Bread has its main bakery on Label Street.

  1. And THE MARLBORO BAKE SHOP, just around the corner on Grove St. Good old fashioned baked goods at a fraction of the cost of Ginas/bread co etc.

  2. Sad, but truth be told, the bakery has been going downhill the past few years. Not really friendly, but worse, dark. Very dark. Possibly the owner felt that interior lighting was an extravagance. When we first moved here in ‘08, we’d stop in almost every week. But over the past year or two, not so much, or hardly at all. Now it’s Cucina 98, a wonderful place, or The Corner, or occasionally Marlboro.

  3. Noooo! Say it ain’t so! Loved their Cran./Apricot Scones! Best Scones ever!
I noticed that the owner did seem to have trouble keeping good (or any) counter/cashier help, but Gina’s will definitely be missed!
