Explore the ways Montclair seniors continue to live their best lives. Aging in Montclair/AIM invites the community to a free seminar on January 24, 2019 from 10 am to 1:30 pm called “Living Your Best Life: Benefits That Support Your Lifestyle” at the AIM Senior Hub located at 13 Trinity Place in the Salvation Army Building. The second in the series, AIM will present local professional panelists who will provide valuable and highly practical benefits that are available to seniors. AIM’s goal is to provide a collective voice for Montclair senior residents who choose to remain active, vital members of the community.
The agenda for the day will be:
Registration: 9:30 am in the Youth Hall Lobby
Health and Nutrition: Siobhan Flynn-Higgins, Director of SHIP program (State Health Insurance Assistance Program; a statewide program that provides objective, confidential help to NJ Medicare beneficiaries with problems and questions) will talk about the help available to seniors deciding on medicare options. Gigi Modestino, from Chrill Care, will discuss senior nutrition including “Meals On Wheels”.
Transportation: Susan Craig, Montclair Transportation Roundtable Chair, will talk about the senior bus and other transportation options.
Tax Relief: The senior tax freeze and homestead rebates will be discussed.
Local Benefits: Katie York, Ph.D, Director of Senior Services/Lifelong Montclair, will discuss the key issues for Montclair seniors such as the number of free programs available in Montclair at the Edgemont Park Field House, The MLL Program and the new Blue Angel Program.
A light lunch will be provided, free of charge, with featured guest speaker Sarah Nikpour, Director of Planning in Partnership. She will talk about the many free resources available for Montclair-area residents age 55+ that promote independence and support vitality among older adults. She’ll cover topics from retirement, moving to a different “home” or retrofitting your current home, healthcare challenges, death, illness or long term placement of a partner or spouse, living on a fixed income and dealing with increasing basic living costs for food, gas, electricity, fuel, oil, medical and personal care and transportation.
