Brrr! It’s Very, Very Cold – Extreme Cold

Baby it’s cold outside — real cold. Area schools have delayed openings and even closures due to the low temperatures. We want you to stay safe in the frigid temps today:

  • Dress in layers — lots of them. Hat and gloves are required as well as a scarf to protect your face. Multiple loose layers of clothing are better than just one warm sweater. Insulated boots will also help.
  • Know the signs of frostbite — a loss of feeling and a white or pale appearance in extremities, such as fingers, toes, ear lobes or the tip of the nose. Minimize time outside and make sure you are as bundled up as possible.
  • Be prepared. It’s good to keep these items in your car in the event of a breakdown in extreme cold: warm clothes, boots, blankets, flashlight with extra batteries and snacks. And of course, a charged cell phone and backup charger.
