Traditional Camp Settings

CAMP RIVERBEND

Where: 116 Hillcrest Rd., Warren, NJ

What: At Camp Riverbend Day Camp, your child can experience the most memorable summer ever—in a safe, nurturing and caring environment dedicated to growth, friendship and fun! DEERKILL DAY CAMP

Who: Kids ages 3 – 15
What: Deerkill Day Camp is a 3rd-generation family-owned day camp for boys and girls age 3 to 15 in Rockland County, New York. Owned and directed by the Rhodes Family since 1958, Deerkill has been the summer home for campers from throughout Manhattan, Rockland, Bergen, Orange, Hoboken and Montclair for over half a century. Deerkill Day Camp is a smaller ACA-accredited day camp that offers a warm and supportive environment on a beautiful 15 acre campus. Deerkill offers a superb swimming program, team sports and a dozen specialty programs in the creative and performing arts. Transportation is by air-conditioned minibus. Hot lunches, towels, supplies, trips and a weekend pool club are included. No tipping allowed.
When: New campers may enroll for 2 weeks or more. All returning campers may enroll from 4 – 8 weeks.

Spring Lake Day Camp
Where: Conklintown Road, Ringwood, NJ
Who: Kids in Pre-K – 10th grade.
What: 30-acre campus offering well-balanced swim, sports and arts program with 5-acre lake for boating and fishing, heated pools with water slides, awesome athletic fields, adventure ropes, shade and plenty of indoor facilities for rainy day events. Catered lunch, door to door air-conditioned mini-bus transportation, and uniform shirts included.

YMCA OF MONTCLAIR-CAMP AT THE LAKE

Where: YMCA of Montclair Outdoor Education Center, 131 Germantown Road, West Milford (FREE transportation provided from select bus stops)
Who: Ages 5–13
What: This American Camp Association accredited camp provides children with exciting adventures, cooperative learning, and tons of fun! Campers have an action packed- day starting right after the fun bus ride with morning announcements and wacky events at camp opening. The day then consists of a variety of activities in smaller groups that may include arts and crafts, playing sports, catching a fish, paddling a boat, working as a team, archery, exploring nature and science, and much, much more! While other activities vary from day to day, swim lessons are provided daily. Campers express their creativity, unleash their boundless energy, learn new skills, and develop meaningful relationships.
When: June 24– August 30 (10 one-week sessions, no camp July 4). Hours: 8:00am–4:30pm (Bus stop drop-off available starting at 7:30am).

Deer Mountain Day Camp
Where: 63 Call Hollow Rd, Pomona, NY
Who: Ages 3 – 15
What: Deer Mountain Day Camp, located just minutes from the George Washington and Tappan Zee bridges, sits on 25 beautiful mountainside acres surrounding our spring-fed lake.  At Deer Mountain, age-appropriate programs for children 3-15 years old have been crafted by certified teachers and educational professionals to give your child the most enriching summer experience possible.

Harbor Hills Day Camp

JCC Metrowest Camp Deeny Riback

Who: Ages 3 1/2 – 15 years
What: Camp Deeny Riback combines the magic & excitement of camp on a beautiful 35-acre facility. Meadowbrook Country Day Camp

Who: Kids ages 3 – Grade 9
What: Meadowbrook is an ACA accredited camp with a beautiful 50 acre campus filled with exciting activities including a 9,000 square foot pool complex featuring 3 heated pools and special events each and every week. Morristown-Beard Day Camp
Where: 70 Whippany Road, Morristown, NJ
Who: Kids ages 6 – 13.
What: A state-licensed facility, located on a beautiful 22-acre campus, designed to help children develop skills in sports, arts and crafts, drama, swimming and science. Counselors work to promote good sportsmanship and self-confidence. Daily schedule is comprised of structured periods, with a flexible schedule on special events days.

Oasis Day Camp
Where: 36 Madison Ave Drew University, Madison, NJ
Who: Kids ages 3 – 11
What: Located at the scenic campus of Drew University in Madison, NJ, Oasis Madison has all the facilities you could possibly want in a summer experience- sprawling ball fields, tennis courts, an indoor swimming pool, air conditioned gyms and classrooms, and an arboretum complete with nature trails and ponds! Campers can enhance their creative energies in performing arts classes like dance and drama and tap into their athletic side with various sports activities and outdoor adventure classes.

South Mountain YMCA Counselor-In-Training (CIT) Program
Where: At the Y Knots or SOMAPY Day Camps
Who: For teens entering 9th & 10th grades
What: Designed to give campers the training and experiences they need to develop in order to become tomorrow’s leaders.
When: Two 3-week sessions. Before and aftercare is NOT available.

Willow Lake Day Camp
Where: 200 State Route 181, Lake Hopatcong, NJ
Who: Kids and teens ages 3 – 15.
What: Age appropriate programs which include aquatics, art, athletics, water sports, trips and electives.

THE LITTLE GYM OF MONTCLAIR
Where: One Greenwood Avenue, Montclair
Who: Kids 3 – 8.
What: Each three-hour camp day is filled with fitness and fun. Obstacle courses, Air Trak, Arts and crafts, group activities, snack time and special events give kids challenges, fun, and time to interact and build their social skills – all in a non-competitive, nurturing environment. Each camp offers interactive themes which add a dash of imagination to their play.

YMCA OF MONTCLAIR-CAMP YBA: YOUTH BASKETBALL ALL-STARS

Who: Ages 8–13
What: The YMCA of Montclair is an expert when it comes to youth basketball! If your camper is a basketball enthusiast, Y.B.A is where they will want to spend their summer! We provide intense programming during which campers will further develop skills, learn game strategies and achieve goals on and off the court. Each day is spent improving fundamentals, performing interactive drills, building offensive and defensive skills, playing in-house tournaments, and getting in shape. Campers may register for as many weeks of the program as they like-but note-they fill up quickly. This camp is also a great option for youth who wish to try out for our travel team in the Fall.

SAFE SPLASH SWIM SCHOOL
Where: 95 Pompton Avenue, Cedar Grove
Who: Kids age 3-12.
What: SafeSplash, a brand new, state-of-the-art swim school is offering 1-hour swim camps from Mondays through Thursdays for all levels of ability, from beginner to competitive. The inviting 90-degree indoor pool, energetic instructors, and proven curriculum create a positive environment where students learn life-saving aquatic skills and stroke fundamentals, all while having fun! Kids learn in a group lesson that has no more than 4 students.

New York NFL Alumni Heroes Youth Football Camps

What:Football fit for kids! Camps provide safe, non-contact instruction.  Kids learn to run, throw, catch, defend and compete the NFL Alumni Heroes way.   Each camp focuses on developing athletic skills, football skills and life skills while the kids have a blast playing the great game of football. Within the skill development goals, teaching USA Football’s Heads Up Football curriculum a top priority for the tackle-bound players.  In a safe, non-contact format, Heads Up teaches the proper techniques for blocking and tackling so they play better, safer football.

St. John’s Montclair Soccer Camps at MSU
Where: Montclair State University, 1 Normal Avenue, Montclair, NJ
Who: Kids ages 5-14.
What: Improve soccer skills in a friendly and fun filled environment. All the game skills such as dribbling, passing, control, shooting and heading are covered. Each day includes small sided games, practices and game tactics. The day schedule also includes water slip-n-slide, movies during lunch in air-conditioned lunch rooms. Lunch rooms are also used in case of extreme heat or bad weather.

Sum It Up For Boys Lacrosse Camp
Where: Sessions held in Summit, Short Hills, Chatham, Gilette, and Berkeley Heights
Who: Boys in grades k – 4th
What: Focus primarily on stick skills; do not require full pads and helmets for boys in K-4th grade. Campers learn basics of the game such as throwing, catching, cradling, ground balls, shooting, dodging, and defense.

Sum It Up For Girls Lacrosse Camp

What: Guest-coach visits from the area’s elite teams give our campers the chance to learn about playing opportunities at the next level.Creative crafts and journal-making provide girls the opportunity to cool off and relax. A Certified Athletic Trainer at every camp trained to handle medical emergencies, including allergic reactions and asthma-related incidents.

Yogi Berra Museum Baseball Camp
Where: 8 Yogi Berra Drive, Little Falls
Who: Boys ages 7-13.
What: The Museum’s baseball camp is directed by Andrew Mulvey, baseball coach at Wardlaw-Hartridge High School, whose staff includes top collegiate baseball players as instructors. Through specialized stations and game competition, the camps focus on fun and fundamentals – while providing instruction in proper hitting, bunting, pitching, baserunning, fielding, position play and more.
When: July 29-Aug. 2 (daily from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.).

Yogi Berra Museum Softball Camp
Where: 8 Yogi Berra Drive, Little Falls
Who: Girls ages 7-13.
What: The Museum’s 2018 softball camp is directed by Anita Kubicka, the all-time winningest coach in Montclair State softball history. Anita is currently entering her 28th season with the Red Hawks. During her tenure at MSU, Kubicka has produced 38 All-Americans, while setting numerous University and NCAA records. Designed for ages 7-13, the YBMLC softball camp develops player skills in pitching, catching, fielding, hitting, and more. For optimal learning, campers are split into groups based on skill level.

SURF AND TURF ADVENTURE CAMP
Where: Pickup and drop off at Edgemont Park in Montclair every day.
Who: Children ages 9 – 15. We have a Junior Camp built within (Surf and Turf Jr.)
What: Day and overnight trips with qualified, full-time teachers, EMT’s, and lifeguards of Montclair. There is a daily adventure and road trip to various outdoor events surrounding the Metropolitan area and beyond. The Handywork Studio Camps

What: The Handwork Studio is a kids’ needle arts and fashion camp. What: Various themed rock and roll camp for all abilities starting at age 6. Students are placed in bands that perform at the end of the week. Throughout the week students participate in instrument master classes and band rehearsals, as well as lessons in music theory and music history relative to the weeks theme. What: Young women find inspiration and build community in this one-week jazz immersion program, says Regina Carter, Artistic Director. The program includes individual lessons, small ensemble work, industry panel discussions, and field trips to landmark jazz institutions before culminating in a student showcase.

The ASTA/NJ Chamber Music Institute
Where: All camp activities are held on the Douglass Campus of Rutgers University.  Nicholas Music Center and Marryott Music Building are where majority of camp activities are held.
Who: Ages 12–23
What: Now in its 10th year, the American String Teacher’s Association of New Jersey (ASTA/NJ) Chamber Music Institute provides participants with the opportunity to perform in small chamber ensembles under the guidance of renowned faculty. Students participate in daily rehearsals, master classes, elective courses, special presentations, and a variety of social activities. Each session features a concert and master class with a professional, visiting artist ensemble and concludes with a performance featuring student ensembles. Students may audition to be placed in specially formed advanced ensembles; preformed ensembles are welcome.

EARTH AND SKY SUMMER CAMP FOR YOUNG EARTHLINGS

What: Joining a worldwide movement of Forest Schools dedicated to enhancing the physical and mental health of young people as well as our planet, Earth and Sky Summer Camp for Young Earthlings is dedicated to nurturing a deep connection with Mother Earth, ourselves and each other. Campers spend time in the woods, experiencing and learning firsthand, the beauty and magic of the natural world. As we connect to the woods of First Mountain, our imagination may see a mass of branches as our forest home or the velvety moss as a fairy bed. What are the names of our tree friends? Follow the movements of our winged neighbors. Or be inspired to build a bridge over a gully. And in the process, more deeply connect with ourselves and our place in the natural world. Pony Grooming Riding & Program

What: This unique program provides an exciting and inexpensive hands-on introduction to the wonderful world of equines in a fun-filled, non-threatening atmosphere. PonyShare uses camp-trained ponies and cobs, smaller and easier to handle than their larger equine counterparts. Small groups of 4-5 children are formed according to age and prior experience – if any. Horsemanship matters covered include: Safety on and around the horses, Basic Anatomy, Equine Senses & Body Language, Grooming, The Tack and Harness, Driving the Miniature Horse, English & Western styles, Barn Management and Careers in the Industry. Participants also get to shortly ride or drive their charges for about 20 minutes during each session.

ADVENTURE KITCHEN SUMMER CAMPS
Where: Montclair
Who: Kids ages 8-15 depending on the week
What: Adventure Kitchen, a destination for curious cooks of all ages, is back with their unique camps for the 4th year in a row. We have two camp options: Adventure Camp for entering 6th-9th graders where we meet at the Walnut St. train station every morning and spend a full day in NYC, exploring and enjoying different food adventures! Cooking Camp for ages 8-14 (ages vary by week, click here for more information) at the Unitarian Church in downtown Montclair. Spend the day cooking, eating and having fun (with a different theme each week).

YMCA of Montclair–Summer Sparks: Enrichment Camp
Where: Memorial Middle School, 500 Ridge Road, Cedar Grove
Who: Ages 6–12 (students entering 1st through 6th grade for the 2019/2020 school year)
What: Summer Sparks’ enrichment programs are all completely hands on and highly interactive. Program examples are STEM, Arts, Physical Activity, Social Skills, and so much more. It’s your child’s choice of morning or afternoon sessions or sign up for a full day (2 sessions). Enrichment activities expand the minds of campers and keep them educationally engaged in a fun way during the summer months. All activities take place on site. Who: Ages 14–15
What: Quest is a win-win for teens and parents alike! This camp provides a four week long opportunity for campers to gain a foundation that leads to confidence, leadership skills and tools that are necessary for life and the workforce. After two weeks of hands on learning, the teens get to put their newly acquired skills to the test by interning for the remaining two weeks in either one of our other camps or within the Y. They receive ongoing supervision, role-modeling and feedback. Please note this is not a camp to attend more than once unless suggested by the camp staff. One field trip each session (with Voyagers Camp on a Friday). Before you know it, they will have a job-perhaps even with us!
When: July 8-August 2 (4-week session), August 5 – August 30 (4-week session); Hours: 9:00am–4:00pm (pm times may vary on trip days or internship weeks).

Kids Chemistry

What:  Fun and engaging Chemistry activities that can be done with materials found in the kitchen.  Young chemists will learn about atoms, molecules, states of matter, polymers, the periodic table, the history of science, and more, as they make goop, observe chemical reactions, and create edible treats.

Apple Camp
Where: 
Local Apple stores (Willowbrook Mall, Short Hills Mall and Garden State Mall)
Who: Kids ages 8 -12.
What: Learn the ins and outs of iMovie and how to make a film in about the time it takes to watch one. From storyboarding to shooting footage to editing, kids will create their own film from start to finish. The workshop, held at the Apple Retail Store, spans three days and leads up to an Apple Camp Film Festival where campers debut their masterpieces.

Bella Princess Royal Summer Camp
Where: Bella Princess, 98 Broad St, Bloomfield
Who: 3 and up.  (Must be potty trained)
What: They will be able to explore the life of a Princess with crafts, dancing, creative play, music & more. Each week will feature a new princess so sign up for one week to meet your favorite or every week to meet them ALL! At the end of the week each child will be crowned an official Princess or Knight and finally meet the REAL Princess they have been learning about all week!

Zuma Chess Camp

Who: Students entering grades 2 through 9
What: Campers will receive daily mini-lessons and hone their chess skills by playing practice games with their peers. In addition to playing chess, campers will play a variety of board games and puzzles, and participate in outdoor recreational activities (such as dodgeball, wallball, and frisbee games).

Zoo Camps
Where: Turtle Back Zoo, 560 Northfield Avenue, West Orange, NJ.
Who: Various programs for kids entering kindergarten through 8th grade.
What: Campers will be introduced to the extraordinary world of animals, nature, and science for our week long camps that run in June, July and August. Sam’s Film Intensive

Where: Montclair Cooperative School, 65 Chestnut Street, Montclair

Who: Students entering grades 5-9

What: This two week film intensive will give students hands on training and skills needed to produce their own short films. Students will write their own screenplays, develop shot lists, and shoot and edit a short piece of work. Techniques regarding story structure, cinematography, directing actors, and editing tips and tricks will be interspersed throughout the process. iPhone filmmaking will also be a focus, allowing students to continue creating thought provoking and personal films without the use of an expensive camera. By the end, students will have a solid piece of work to start a portfolio!

COLLEGE APPLICATION CAMP
Where: On the campus of Montclair State University, Montclair
Who: Rising high school seniors intent on writing memorable college application essays before the start of senior year.
What: Four-day program focused on developing and writing the 650-word personal essay for the Common Application, with daily one-on-one coaching support from professional writers and writing instructors. (While geared to the Common App, program can accommodate other application platforms as well.) Students will also create an academic/extracurricular résumé and practice their interviewing skills.
When: Two sessions Summer 2018: Session 1—June 25 to 28; Session 2—July 30 to August 2. Program runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Space is limited.

The Gifted Child Society (TGCS)
Where: Northern Highlands Regional High School, 298 Hillside Avenue, Allendale, NJ
Who:  Gifted children in pre-K through 8th grade participate in TGCS programs such as Camp STEAM, after meeting eligibility requirements. Participants must be four years or older and diagnosed as gifted. TGCS offers giftedness screening/IQ test assessment services at our Allendale office.
Eligibility: Once diagnosed as gifted, eligible gifted children becomes a Member of TGCS and is then welcome to participate in all the special programs and services TGCS has to offer.

 We make summer learning FUN! A.C.E. camp was created to prevent youth from going down the “summer slide” yet it does not feel like summer school. We incorporate themes into the math, reading and literacy classes. Included is science, art, music, physical play and one field trip per session. Elementary Educators provide and implement the curriculum and the entire camp team delivers the extracurricular activities. Transportation is available for those who need it from Montclair and Bloomfield. *Some restrictions apply.

YMCA OF MONTCLAIR-GAP: GAINING ACADEMICS PROGRAM

LITTLE ENGINEERS SUMMER CAMP

What: Little Engineers Summer Camp will expose children to different areas of STEM through fun, hands-on and engaging activities developing their creativity, curiosity, problem-solving, critical thinking, communications, and teamwork skills. Each day, we will explore a subject related to our weekly theme through experiments or other hands-on project. Our explorations will often take us outside. We will enjoy related stories, songs and games. A daily snack and recess period will include outdoor play.
Weekly themes: Mission to Mars, Robots Fun, Doctor’s Academy, Jurassic Land, Garden Science, My First Lab, Animals, Vet’s Academy and more. Destination Science Day Camp
Where: Several locations in Bergen County, NJ
Who: Kids between kindergarten and sixth grade.
What: At Destination Science, kids can design and build robo-chameleons, make scabs and pus, grow a life-size model of their brains, and create soccer cyborgs using CSI. Kids also will find out how sound waves and electricity become music as they build their own portable digital music system. The summer camp is committed to creating a spirit of teamwork, as kids are rewarded for helping their peers throughout the day, learning the power of community, collaboration and character development.

International Ivy Summer Program
Where: Caldwell, Chatham and Short Hills locations
Who: Programs for kids ages 5 – 14.
What: Classes based on what kids would love to learn like video game creation, robotics, minecraft, performing arts, weird science. We design the classes to be hands-on where kids learn by doing. There are plenty of choices across many disciplines so kids explore what they are interested in. Our ultimate goal is to help our students find their passion. Once they find it, they are self-motivated to learn and explore further.
