Montclair Fund for Educational Excellence (MFEE) is proud to announce that Showdown Montclair has received the award for “Outstanding Achievement in Fundraising” from the New Jersey Education Foundation Partnership (NJEFP).
The unique talent battle dubbed Showdown Montclair! grossed more than $60,000 in its first year and engaged almost 1,000 people as performers, attendees, donors and volunteers. The fundraising twist for the staged competition was to create individual and unique crowdfunding pages for each of the 10 selected acts, who then tapped their friends and social media contacts to raise a minimum of $750 to perform and compete, along with paid votes on the day of the event, sponsorships, and ticket sales, and also by engaging stakeholder groups like the police department and business owners to increase the fundraising base.
“This award belongs to the community of Montclair,” says MFEE board member and Showdown committee chair LeAnne Korbel. “I was overwhelmed by the response from everyone from the talent, the production team, the volunteers, donations from local businesses, and the audience. Everyone involved came with the spirit of generosity and unity. I love that we can all share this extra honor for a project that supports our public schools.”
“Events like Showdown highlight that organizations can raise significant funds while building community,” says
MFEE’s executive director Masiel Rodriquez-Vars. “MFEE strives to continue supporting our schools with creative events that help us all feel invested in our kids.”
Rodriquez-Vars recently co-led a workshop on “Unique Fundraising Ideas” at the National Schools Foundations Association (NSFA) Conference in San Diego. She was asked to present on the success of Showdown Montclair.
MFEE is proud that Showdown Montclair was so well received and is honored for the recognition from NJEFP.
NJEFP is a statewide organization dedicated to enhancing public education in New Jersey by growing and strengthening local education foundations through education, training, collaboration and advocacy. The award-winning education foundations were selected by a committee of judges comprised of NJEFP partners who are also national and state leaders in the education foundation community.
Awards will be presented and the winners recognized on Friday, March 29, 2019 at the Inaugural NJEFP Education Foundation Awards luncheon at the Mercer Oaks Golf Course in West Windsor, NJ.
