Montclair Crime: Burglary at Fujiya Ramen; Resident Scammed By Caller Pretending to Be PSE&G

The week in crime from D/Lt. David O’Dowd, Montclair Police Department:


02-26-2019 (Fujiya Ramen, Bloomfield Avenue) Burglary to a commercial establishment. Entry was gained by smashing a front window. A cash register containing approximately $1,500 was taken.
02-26-2019 (Bay Street Station) Theft of a bicycle wheel from a bicycle, which was locked to the station bike rack.
02-27-2019 (YMCA, Park Street) Theft of a jacket from the men’s locker room.
02-28-2019 (YMCH, Park Street) Theft of an engagement ring from a locker in the women’s locker area. The locker was padlocked and there was no sign of forced entry.
03-05-2019 (St. Luke’s Place)
Theft of a load of laundry from a common area laundry room in an apartment building.

03-01-2019 (Bloomfield Avenue) A resident was contacted by a party claiming to represent PSE&G, stating that her power was due to be shut off for non-payment. She was advised to send $1800 to the suspect via bitcoin payment. The victim transferred these funds prior to realizing it was a scam.

03-04-2019 (N. Mountain Avenue) A pickup truck equipped with a plow set on fire in the rear driveway of a residence. MFD responded and extinguished the fire. The vehicle sustained heavy damage. No injuries reported.
