Baristanet Profile: Alexandra Quintana

Name: Alexandra Quintana

Where do you live? Belleville, NJ

When did you move there? Just this past summer! Before that I had been living in Nutley since 2009.

Where did you grow up? I moved around a lot when I was growing up. But I mainly grew up in Queens and then Long Island before moving to New Jersey for high school.

How do you make a living? OR What is your everyday passion?

I have a few hustles! I waitress and do some administrative work over at Mundo Vegan, but am also a freelance video editor and videographer. However, my everyday passion is just creating. Lately its consisted of mostly digital artwork and photography which can be found over at my website: I’m still finding my voice with it, but I have been enjoying the process. I even had my first showcase in December!

Coffee, tea or … ? COFFEE!!! Although some days I prefer cocido which is a Paraguayan tea made from yerba mate.

What’s your idea of a perfect weekend day?

My perfect weekend day starts by comfortably waking up to a sunny day with the sounds of birds chirping and definitely NOT my cats screaming at me for food. Then I’d probably make myself some breakfast and enjoy a nice cup of coffee out on my balcony before heading out for a trip to the park or museum with a couple friends. That would probably be followed by getting some lunch and then heading home to do a whole lot of nothing and not feeling guilty about it.

What’s your favorite local restaurant?

I know I work there but it would probably still be Mundo Vegan, on Church Street in Montclair, even if I didn’t! I’m always taking food home. Cowan’s also has a really great brunch menu, and although I’m not sure if it’s considered a restaurant, Sunrise Bagels in Watchung Plaza definitely has a special place in my heart.

What’s on your nightstand? My succulents! I like to keep my children close to me.

What are you listening to?

Solange, Weapons of Mass Creation, and although I thought I was getting out of my Daniel Caesar loop, it’s been a lot of Daniel Caesar. Also, for my podcast needs I tend to tune into Pod Save the People.

What are your current indulgences?

Lately my current indulgences have come in the form of saying yes to all opportunities that come my way, buying unnecessary stationary, lighting ALL the candles I own, and watching house building/renovating shows on Netflix.

What talent you would most like to have? I always wished I could play an instrument or be a dancer. I still plan on learning, though I may not be talented at it.

What’s the worst-kept (or best-kept!) secret about your town?

I haven’t lived in Belleville long enough to know any yet, but for Nutley I would have to say it’s the parks! It’s not really a secret, but I still think it’s amazing how Nutley is essentially split by a row of different parks! Each one is special in its own way, and they make the perfect route for a walk or a run!

What do you hope they say about you at your funeral? I don’t really want to have a funeral so it may be a little something like “I love the music she chose for her party.”
