The construction of the second Bloomfield Parking Garage is set to begin in early April. The project, Lackawanna Station, will bring 174 new residential units and a new parking garage which will create 314 total parking spaces. In order to ensure the safety of the public, the section of Farrand St. between Ward St. and Washington St. will be periodically closed to vehicular traffic from April until July. In order to keep the area open to walking traffic, pedestrian walking areas will be constructed adjacent to Farrand St. Full access to all businesses and parking lots will remain during this time. Access to the Township parking lots will remain from Bloomfield Avenue.

The Bloomfield Police Department, which oversees parking and traffic updates in town, has met with the developer and construction company several times and made routes adjustments so as to minimize inconvenience to pedestrians and accommodate local delivers to businesses.

A small section of Farrand Street, between Washington Street and Ward, will be closed for 3-4 months, beginning approximately April 8th. During work hours, this section of Farrand will periodically be closed. An updated map with closure information will be posted on the township municipal website, and the Township mobile app.

To ensure safety for the walking public, a pedestrian walkway on the North Side of Farrand Street from Ward Street to Washington Street will be constructed. This will allow pedestrians to walk to and from the train station from the Township’s parking lots. The right of way alley that runs from the start of Washington Street at Farrand Street, behind the Washington Street businesses will remain fully open and functional for trash pick-ups and deliveries throughout the project.

“Police Officers will be present for commuter assistance for the first two weeks,” said Director of Public Safety Samuel DeMaio. “We will be in constant communication with the developer during the closure to open the roadway whenever feasible and safe.”
