Vincent Tango, lifelong Montclair resident, passed away on Monday April 29th, 2019.
Tango was an artist well known for his “Memories of Montclair” pieces.
Tango created iconic images of Montclair, with a special emphasis on Montclair High School athletics, Mountie Football, ice skating at Edgemont Park, Bond’s Ice Cream, and many other recognizable Montclair locales, in his unique Folk Art style.
Tango is survived by his sister, Barbara Franciosi, his brother-in-law Vincent Nicastro, his nieces and nephews Kim Romola, Vincent Nicastro, Lisa Snipes, Lynne Franciosi, and Lainie Zink, along with many great nieces and nephews. Vin was predeceased by his sisters, Marion Tango and Rosalie Nicastro.
Funeral services will be held privately with respect to his wishes.
Anyone wishing to make donations in his memory may do so to the Montclair History Center.
Condolences to his family and loved ones. I hope there will be an exhibition of his works.
Vincent Tango was a wonderful local artist. His work was representative of many aspects of Montclair. For those who had not yet migrated from Manhattan’s Upper West Side or Brooklyn, Ray’s Luncheonette on Walnut Street at one time displayed many of his works, especially Mountie football. He and his art will be greatly missed.
