MHS GSA’s “Gay May Day” To Raise Funds for Homeless LGBTQ Youth

On Saturday, May 18, the Montclair High School Gay Straight Alliance (MHS GSA) will present a “Gay May Day” event at Watchung Park from 11:00AM to 5:00PM. The event will be a fundraiser for The Ali Forney Center in Harlem, which provides food, medical care, mental health services, and housing services for homeless LGBTQ youth.

“When the families of LGBTQ middle school and high school age children don’t accept their sons’ or daughters’ sexual orientation, these kids are kicked out of their homes and are forced to live on the streets,” says Kate de Laforcade of MHS GSA. “The Ali Forney Center is a wonderful organization that protects LGBTQ youths from the harms of homelessness, and the money that we raise from our raffles and donations will support their valuable work.”

“Gay May Day” will include performances throughout the day by MHS musicians and bands. There will also be raffles of products, gift cards, and services from businesses in Montclair that are LGBTQ-friendly and supportive of the goals of the MHS Gay Straight Alliance – including Watchung Booksellers. 100% of the funds that are raised from the raffles, as well as all donations, will benefit The Ali Forney Center.

The MHS Gay Straight Alliance “Gay May Day” fundraising and entertainment event will be held at Watchung Park in Watchung Plaza on Saturday, May 18 from 11:00AM to 5:00PM. For more information, visit the MHS GSA Facebook page.
