Montclair’s annual Memorial Day Tribute will take place Monday, May 27, 10:00 a.m., at Edgemont Memorial Park. Mayor Robert Jackson will preside as Master of Ceremonies. Rev. David Shaw, Union Congregational Church, will deliver the invocation, the blessing of the wreaths and the benediction. This year’s speaker is Thomas Hancock, Deputy Vice Commander of the American Legion Department of NJ.
Representatives from a number of veterans organizations will be in attendance: Crawford Crews American Legion Post 251; Lt. Vincent J. Russo American Legion Post 382; Daughters of the American Revolution, Eagle Rock Chapter; Pvt. Harvey Post 2139, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
The program includes the advance and retiring of colors by the Montclair Police and Fire honor guards; Montclair Boy Scout Troop #12 will lead the Pledge of Allegiance and Montclair High School’s Passing Notes will sing the National Anthem. The Montclair Community Band will play patriotic music to open and close the ceremony and the band’s trumpeter, Carl Witzig, will perform the Sounding of Taps.
