Bloomfield’s Spice Thai, a restaurant that’s won accolades for its wings and its charming, romantic tucked away tables and of course, terrific Thai food, is not only a reader favorite, but practically a second home to Baristanet’s own Annette Batson, who has celebrated birthdays and other occasions with her family for years, with wonderful owner Rodgee Cao making sure everyone leaves his dining room happy. We learned this month that Spice Thai just won’t be the same after June 16, 2019. Cao writes:
It is with a heavy heart & with deep sadness that I announce the closing of Spice Thai Cuisine on June 16, 2019. It has been a long process of considering all the options that brought me to this decision. It has been almost 10 years of owning this place & it has given me some of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I can’t believe it stayed open this long. I have met a lot of people in this journey & some have become dear friends. My decision is based on some personal issues & it has been a long time coming. Retirement has been in the horizon for quite sometime now. I have poured 100% of myself into running Spice Thai Cuisine & got a lot of help & support from my life partner, Rich Rockwell, & without his help this would not have been possible. Thank you Rich & to my staff for making this dream possible & a reality. To all our customers, supporters, friends, & families who stood by us all these years, thank you very much. When I started this journey in September 2009, it was an honest testimonial to my second chance/lease in life. In 2007, I was in a very serious accident that broke & dislocated my left ankle. A guy driving irresponsibly hit me while crossing the street. I could have died. I had to take a leave of absence from a Culinary School for 7 months of rehabilitation. I was a month shy from graduation. My involvement with Spice Thai Cuisine was a blessing. I had doubts about my physical & emotional abilities needed to run & operate a restaurant. That was then & this is now! I have acquired a better understanding & appreciation of restaurant owners, the people who work in the kitchen, the servers, & the waitstaff. Their jobs are difficult & often the unsung heroes of the food & restaurant business. Yes, the restaurant is for sale. It is my hope that someone will buy it & will continue the same quality of food & atmosphere. If anyone is interested, please call 917-855-4227, 973-429-2950 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org & email@example.com. Thank you!
