Garden State Rollergirls To Hold Recruiting Event, Saturday, July 27

You saw them roll by in this year’s Montclair Fourth of July parade. Now you can join the fun. The Garden State Rollergirls (GSR) is looking to grow their roller derby team.

GSR will be holding a First-Skate event for prospective players on Saturday, July 27 at the Inline Skating Club of America in North Arlington.

The team is looking for skaters with or without experience. Those who are new to the game will learn the basics under the guidance of two charter team members: BlackEye Betty and Diem Zee.

There are also opportunities available for those who prefer not to strap on a pair of rollerskates. The team is always looking for Non-Skating Officials to help with scorekeeping, penalty tracking and more.

“I hope that people who come to our ‘First-Skate’ event will be able to experience the amazing community that roller derby has to offer,” says Betty.

Anyone interested in attending the First-Skate event must be 18 or older and should email to sign up. The cost is $10 per person and loaner gear can be made available upon request. Participants should be geared up and ready to hit the track by 9:30 a.m.
