Montclair Crime: Resident Says $40,000 Stolen From Locked Safe; Multiple Thefts From Unlocked Vehicles

The week in Montclair crime from David O’Dowd, Detective Lieutenant, Montclair Police Department:

Burglary/Attempted Burglary
July 2, 2019 (Grenada Place): Two juvenile males were observed attempting to enter a parked vehicle. Upon being confronted by the resident they fled south on Orange Road. They were described as two black males, one wearing a gold/red hat, dark clothing, camouflage back pack, about 5’6-5’9 in height the other described as wearing white shirt, beige cargo pants and a book bag.
July 7, 2019 (Midland Avenue): An unlocked shed was entered in the rear of a residence. The suspect removed a Cypress DX Large framed yellow/ black bicycle.
July 5, 2019 (Pine Street): A resident reported that approximately $40,000 in cash was stolen from a locked safe inside of his apartment. This incident is under investigation.

Theft from Motor Vehicles
July 2, 2019 (Gordonhurst Avenue): Two unlocked motor vehicles were entered during the early morning hours. A laptop worth approximately $2000 was removed from one of the vehicles.
July 2, 2019 (Fairmont Avenue): An unlocked vehicle was entered while parked in the driveway. The vehicle was rummaged through but nothing reported missing.
July 3, 2019 (Beverly Road): Two unlocked vehicles were entered in the early morning hours. Both vehicles were rummaged through and a set of headphones were stolen from one vehicle.
July 3, 2019 (Beverly Road): An unlocked vehicle was entered while parked in the driveway. It is unknown if any items were taken.
July 3, 2019 (Beverly Road): An unlocked vehicle was entered during the early morning hours. A make-up bag was removed and recovered on the street later in the day.
July 3, 2019 (Beverly Road): An unlocked vehicle was entered and rummaged through. It is unknown if any items were taken.
July 3, 2019 (Midland Avenue): A gym bag containing miscellaneous items were removed from an unlocked motor vehicle. The bag was located down the street.

All of the above incidents are being investigated, residents are reminded to lock your vehicles.

Vandalism
July 2, 2019 (Baldwin Street): A resident reported that her vehicle was vandalized while parked on the street. Multiple scratch marks were located down the drivers side.
July 6, 2019 (Hilltop Place): A resident reported her vehicle damaged while parked in front of her home.
