Montclair Crime: Strong Arm Robbery on Pine Street; Graffiti Vandalism at Montclair Kimberley

The week in crime from David O’Dowd, Detective Lieutenant, Montclair Police Department:

Strong-Arm Robbery

June 28, 2019 (Pine Street) Patrol units responded to the area of Pine Street and Grant Street on a report of a strong-arm robbery. The victim reported that he was approached by a male who removed his wallet from his pants by force. The wallet contained approximately $100.00 in cash. The suspect is described as a black male, 20-25 years old, last seen wearing red basketball shorts and a white t-shirt. This incident is under investigation.

Burglary / Theft
June 26, 2019 (Maple Avenue): An iPhone XR was stolen from an unattended bag on Maple Avenue.
June 26, 2019 (South Willow Street): Two package deliveries containing a pair of men’s sneakers were stolen from a porch on South Willow Street.
July 1, 2019 (Grenada Place): Two bicycles, one described as a men’s Road Bicycle, Giant Blue Hybrid, LED front and rear lamps, lock and air pump mounted (estimated value $500.00) the other a women’s Mountain Bicycle, Schwinn Mountain Comfort, Grey, with White Helmet (estimated value $650.00) were removed from an enclosed porch on Grenada Place. The victim reported that his vehicle was also entered and rummaged through with nothing reported missing.

July 1, 2019 (Harrison Avenue): Approximately $500.00 in items were stolen from an unlocked Dodge Ram parked overnight.

July 1, 2019 (North Mountain Avenue): A Volkswagen Jetta parked at a North Mountain Avenue address was entered. The suspect shattered a passenger side window and removed a GPS unit.

Recovered Vehicle

June 30, 2019: A 2013 Volkswagen Passat stolen from Montclair on June 21, 2019 was recovered in Cranford after a motor vehicle pursuit. A 25 year old male from East Orange was placed under arrest.


July 1, 2019 (Orange Road): Staff at Montclair Kimberly Academy reported graffiti markings spread throughout the playing field. Numerous drawings and phrases were written in white paint. The incident is under investigation.
