Montclair Crime: Theft From Vehicles, Suspicious Incident

The week in Montclair crime from Capt. Scott Buehler, Montclair Police Department:

Thefts from Motor Vehicles

July 17, 2019 (Oak Place): Two unlocked motor vehicles were entered sometime during the evening hours of the 16th. Both vehicles were rummaged through, with a set of Apple AirPods reported missing.

July 19, 2019 (Chestnut Street): Complainant states that his laptop computer, valued at $1,400, was stolen from his vehicle earlier in the week.

July 22, 2019: (Willowdale Avenue): Complainant states that a wallet containing $120 was taken from an unlocked motor vehicle parked in a driveway. Surveillance video shows two thin, male suspects entering the vehicle. One suspect is seen wearing a light-colored hooded sweatshirt, dark colored sneakers, and shorts. The second male is seen wearing a light-colored hooded sweatshirt, dark colored jeans, and “Jordan Retro 1” sneakers.

Motor Vehicle Theft

July 21, 2019 (Trinity Place): Complainant states that her vehicle was stolen sometime between the evening of the 20th and the early afternoon of the 21st. The vehicle had been left unlocked with the key fob in the vehicle’s center console.

Theft

July 18, 2019 (Grove Street): A resident at a multi-family residence reported that a package received in the mail and left on her porch had been opened. The content, a robotic vacuum cleaner valued at $150, was stolen.

Suspicious Incident

July 19, 2019 (Park Street): Complainant reports that a wooden flower planter on his property had been destroyed sometime that afternoon. Preliminary investigation revealed that the damage may possibly have been result of a vehicle driving on the property. There are no suspects at this time.

Bicycle Theft

July 17, 2019 (Bloomfield Avenue) : Complainant states that his bicycle, valued at $200, was stolen while he was inside a store. The complainant states that the bicycle was left at a bike rack, but was not locked. There are no suspects at this time.

July 22, 2019 (Montague Place): Complainant reports that sometime between 10:00 PM and midnight on July 17, 2019, a Fuji Traverse bicycle, valued at $500, was stolen from the rear of his residence.

Arrests:

July 20, 2019: (Bloomfield Avenue): A 45-year-old Newark woman was charged with shoplifting from 701 Bloomfield Avenue.

July 21, 2019: (Maple Avenue): A 29-year-old Montclair man was charged with eluding after police observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Bloomfield Avenue. After a brief pursuit, he exited the vehicle and was apprehended.
