When did you move here? I moved to Montclair in 1975.
Where did you grow up? The South End of Montclair.
How do you make a living? OR What is your everyday passion? I have a passion for and make a living as a clothing designer. I own Markell’s Closet, and I’m best known for my African print designs.
Coffee, tea or … ? I love tea and drink coffee only as a pick me up.
What’s your idea of a perfect weekend day? My idea of a perfect weekend: A nice beach house, great company, and even better weather.
What’s your favorite local restaurant? You can find me at Ray’s Luncheonette on Walnut Street, at least twice a week.
What’s on your nightstand? I have Bible and a gallon of water on my nightstand.
What are your current indulgences? Dark chocolate, cheesecake, and beautiful unique shoes.
What talent would you most like to have? I would love to play an instrument.
What’s the worst-kept (or best-kept!) secret about Montclair? Best kept secret: The amount of famous black people raised in Montclair. Worst kept secret: The amount of people killed in Montclair.
What do you hope they say about you at your funeral? When I die, I want people to say: She loved God and her family, and she was always honest, caring, and gave from her heart.
