Montclair Crime: Two Men Arrested For Burglary on Ferncliff Ave.

The week in Montclair crime from Captain Scott Buehler, Montclair Police:

August 5, 2019 (Ferncliff Terrace): Police responded on a report of a burglary in progress, with the suspects fleeing on foot. One, identified as Henry Smith, 28, of Maplewood, was apprehended on Stanford Place while another, Nyedair Parker, 27, of Paterson, was apprehended on Columbus Avenue.

The complainant stated that he woke at approximately 8:00 am when he heard a large crash in his residence. When he went to investigate, he discovered that a first floor window of his residence had been smashed and it appeared as if someone had reached into the window. He then observed two males on his porch who fled when he called out to them. Smith was found to be in possession of a multi-tool while Parker was found to be in possession of marijuana.
Smith was charged with burglary, receiving stolen property, possession of burglary tools, and resisting arrest. Parker was charged with burglary, receiving stolen property, possession of under 50 grams of marijuana,

Burglaries

July 30, 2019 (North Fullerton Avenue): Police responded to a basement apartment on a report of a burglary that occurred between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM on that date. The complainant states that $1700 in cash was missing from the apartment. There were no signs of forced entry to the apartment.

August 6, 2019 (Montclair Avenue): Complainant reports that his vehicle was rummaged through while parked in his driveway. Nothing was reported missing from the vehicle. Video footage shows the suspect as being a black male with little to no hair and a thin build. He was last seen wearing a tan-colored t-shirt, jeans, and white reflective sneakers.

Thefts

August 5, 2019 (Walnut Crescent): Complainant states that two five-gallon gas cans and a backpack blower were stolen from the property. The complainant observed a male carrying gas cans from the area and placing them in the trunk of a vehicle containing a leaf blower. The complainant describes the suspect as a black male, approximately 30 years old, 5’10”, approximately 195 lbs. with a thin moustache and a sleeve tattoo on his right arm. He was last seen wearing a red baseball cap, blue jeans and a red tank top with white accents on the collar and arm area, with “Baywatch” on the front.

Vandalism

July 31, 2019 (Oxford Street): Complainant reports that sometime between 10:00 AM and noon on that date that one of the rear windows to her Hyundai Elantra was shattered. It is not known what was used to cause the damage and there are no suspects at this time.

August 6, 2019 (Maple Avenue): a business owner reports that the front door glass to his establishment had been damaged sometime between 10:30 PM on the 5th and 6:35 PM on the 6th.

Arrests

July 31, 2019 (Bloomfield Avenue): A 52-year-old Montclair woman was arrested and charged with theft after employees observed her attempting to exit the store without paying for approximately $135 worth of merchandise.

August 1, 2019 (Glenridge Avenue): A 22-year-old Montclair man was arrested on this date after police responded to a report of a physical altercation. During the incident, the man is reported to have damaged a window with his fist and once arrested, he reportedly threatened an arresting officer and the officer’s family. He was charged with criminal mischief and terroristic threats.

August 5, 2019 (Glenridge Avenue): A 61-year-old Jersey City man was arrested and charged with shoplifting and criminal trespass after it was reported that he took approximately $10 in merchandise from a business without paying. He was also found to have an outstanding warrant issued by Montclair.
