S.O.F.I.A. Welcomes Selina D. Carter as Grand Marshal for 9th Annual Walk Against Domestic Violence

On Saturday, September 7, 2019, Start Out Fresh Intervention Advocates (S.O.F.I.A.) welcomes the community to celebrate that “With Awareness There is Hope” at its 9th Annual Walk Against Domestic Violence in a new location, Montclair’s beautiful Glenfield Park! Registration for the Walk begins at 9 AM with snacks and raffles, where our community comes together prior to the main event. The Walk begins at 10 AM, and the program ends at noon.

S.O.F.I.A. is honored to have Selina D. Carter, MDiv, the founder and executive director of Spirit of Excellence – Leadership Guidance, Inc. as Grand Marshal for the event. Minister Selina’s passion for empowering women has inspired her to create, implement, and facilitate workshops and leadership training sessions in both corporate and religious settings. Most notable are Day of Royalty, Can We Talk for mothers and daughters, Renewed, and Did You Know – A Domestic Violence Awareness Workshop.

Cynthia Walker, executive director and founder of S.O.F.I.A., says, “This annual walk encourages our community to come together and show public support for those directly impacted by domestic violence. Minimizing the stigma and raising awareness about warning signs and resources are deeply meaningful and important to promote prevention and healing.”

Walk Schedule

9:00 am – 10:00 am: Registration, snacks, and raffles 10:00 am – 11:00 am: Walk at your own pace
11:15 am – 11:45 am: Grand Marshal – Minister Selina Carter and Recognitions 12:00 pm – Prayer with the Community

Joining S.O.F.I.A.’s 9th Annual Walk Against Domestic Violence on September 7th means showing support through action and dedication. S.O.F.I.A. holds its Walk Against Domestic Violence to show survivors, as well as those still in abusive relationships, that they are not alone and that they have a network of support to hold them up.

Registration for individuals starts at $20, and Team Captains can register their teams for
$45 and have team members sign up for $20 each. Teams can represent a business, organization, or community group; a great way to highlight community involvement and values. See information here: http://supportsofia.org/events/
