You had me at honey dipped fried chicken. Yes, crispy, crunchy, glistening fried chicken, dipped in honey.
To find said chicken, head on over to Hot Plate Southern Kitchen. Newly opened in Montclair, Hot Plate takes over the space vacated by Vital Dining. The spot has come full circle, since long before Vital, it was home to Indigo Smoke, another Montclair restaurant with a Southern-influenced menu.
Hot Plate Southern Kitchen moved to Montclair from Bethelem, PA in late August.
We dropped by and ordered takeout. We loved(!) the honey dipped fried chicken, and can heartily recommend the candied yams, cajun fries, and of course, banana pudding! We will visit Hot Plate again to try their take on that winning combination of fried chicken and waffles (we’re also intrigued by Granny’s deep-fried lobster tail). Interestingly, Hot Plate also offers a number of vegan riffs on its classic Southern dishes including vegan mac and cheese and vegan Cajun chicken.
Hot Plate Southern Kitchen will officially open with a grand opening celebration on Friday, September 6. To find out more about other upcoming events, including nights with live jazz and Music Bingo Wednesdays, follow Hot Plate Southern Kitchen on Instagram at @HotPlaToteSoul.
