The project, which will install four murals throughout downtown Montclair, will be completed by December 2019. Artists must submit their proposals by September 16, 2019. The jury will comprise Jeff Beck, owner of East Side Mags; Petia Morozov, founder of Design Week Montclair; Tanya Poteat, member of the Montclair Art Museum’s African American Cultural Committee; Ruth Perretti, local business owner and former senior vice-president of design at Ralph Lauren; Mary Z. Scotti, director of the former 73See Gallery; Gail Stavitsky, chief curator at the Montclair Art Museum; and Sharon Burton Turner, lifetime arts advocate and former chair of Montclair Art Museum African American Cultural Committee.

“We are all energized to work with such a prestigious group of Montclair community members on this project,” said Jason Gleason, acting executive director of the Montclair Center BID. “I anticipate dynamic and thoughtful works of art chosen for downtown Montclair.”

ArtConnects, the Montclair Center BID’s mural program, is funded, in part, by a Transformation Grant from the Main Street New Jersey Program. Established in 1989, the MSNJ Program helps municipalities improve the economy, appearance, and image of their central business districts through the organization of local citizens and resources. Municipalities must apply and be selected to join the MSNJ Program. These designated communities receive technical support and training to assist in restoring their Main Streets as centers of economic and social activity.
