Where did you grow up? Bergen County, NJ. A Jersey girl through and through.
How do you make a living? OR What is your everyday passion?
Flowers, Fashion, Family, Friends. Connecting with others through creativity and nature. After 20 years as a fashion designer (most recently as the VP of Design for Kate Spade), I decided to pivot to my other passions, fueled by my long time love of flowers, gardening, and hosting great parties. Studio Nectar is only a little over a year old, and we are trying it all: weddings, event design, intimate parties, floral subscriptions, deliveries, workshops in collaboration with Moss and More, florals for the MC, movie styling. Follow us on Instagram or Facebook to see what we come up with next! Another important aspect of our business model is to practice sustainable floristry whenever possible. What this means to us is going the extra mile to NEVER use floral foam, source from local farms when in season, recycle vessels, and compost our floral waste. We have also started crafting some of our floral waste and local restaurant waste into beautiful silk ribbons…stay tuned to see where that goes.
Coffee, tea or … ? Coffee, many ways, but never black. And on my more organized mornings I skip the coffee and get a Kacy green shake from Joyist.
What’s your idea of a perfect weekend day?
There are many versions of my perfect weekend day, but they all start with a few lazy hours in pajamas and end at dusk with a homemade cocktail in hand, sitting in my favorite Adirondack chair at the edge of my messy garden, watching the fireflies come on and my kids running around trying to stretch the final hours of the day.
What’s your favorite local restaurant? Hmmmm…how to choose, how to choose… There are so many I love, but at this moment I think it has to be the petite gem: da pepo. It never disappoints, and it reminds me of my grandma.
What’s on your nightstand? Absolutely nothing.
What are you listening to?
Brandi Carlile on repeat. My husband definitely is ready for a change….when he really maxes out I switch to my tried and true: Florence and the Machine mixed with a bit of Pink (not that he considers that better!). And when I need to take it down, like when I am writing event proposals, making design boards, or hosting a client meeting, my go-to soother is Madeleine Peyroux.
What are your current indulgences? Astier de Villatte incense, Nancy Rose T-Shirts, end-of-season dahlias, and Cappalletti Spritz. Although now that fall has come on, I will need a new cocktail. Suggestions? Send me recipes!
What talent you would most like to have? It’s a toss up between being in two places at once and making more time in the day.
What’s the worst-kept (or best-kept!) secret about Montclair (or your town)? I am always surprised how many people don’t know about the Avis Campbell Garden behind the United Way building. A beautiful little escape immaculately maintained by the ladies of the Montclair Garden Club, always worth a wander.
What do you hope they say about you at your funeral? She lived life with a style all her own.
