Valentina Moscoso, a 9-year-old fourth grade student at Watchung Elementary School, is the recipient of a multi-year music education scholarship to School of Rock Montclair. The scholarship program is a partnership between School of Rock Montclair and HOMECorp, which a community-based, non-profit organization that provides affordable housing to Montclair residents.
“Our scholarship initiative with HOMECorp is a great way to support the talent and aspirations of a young Montclair musician,” says School of Rock Montclair’s General Manager Kevin March. “HOMECorp introduced us to Valentina, and we know that she’ll be a wonderful student and a great fit with the School of Rock Montclair family.”
As an after school music student at School of Rock Montclair, Valentina will participate in the Rock 101 program, which includes a weekly 90 minute group rehearsal with other young musicians as well as a private weekly 45 minute lesson with one of the School’s faculty members. After gaining some experience, Valentina will then be eligible to participate in the School’s Performance Programs, which are tributes to some of the biggest artists and popular genres in modern music history, and culminate in concerts that are presented by the students at local clubs and venues.
“School of Rock Montclair is giving Valentina an amazing opportunity to develop her musical skills,” says Melody Federico, the Executive Director of HOMECorp. “We’re thrilled that she has the chance to work with the School’s high caliber instructors and meet other students who have a passion for music.”
Valentina, who will be studying vocals and learning to play the keyboard at School of Rock Montclair, is eager to begin her musical journey.
“My first visit and tour of the School was awesome!” says Valentina. “I’m excited to get started and to learn how to sing and play my favorite songs by Katy Perry and Halsey.”
