Renaissance Student On Bike Struck By Car Near Montclair High School

Montclair High School Principal Anthony M. Grosso notified parents of an incident this morning near Montclair High School involving a Renaissance middle school student:

Dear MHS Community,

At approximately 8:30 am this morning, a Renaissance student on a bike was struck by a car on Park Street near the corner of Chestnut Street. The MPD and medical services arrived on the scene. The student was released to his parent after he was checked by the paramedics.

  1. I’m not surprised to read this. Drivers are routinely texting and driving too fast around town. It’s disgusting. Glad to hear this child is okay. Sadly, there will be a next time.

  2. @friedchix, I agree about the bad driving but this news announcement gives no information that implicates the driver of the car. Bicyclists (of any age) must follow the rules of the road, and frankly I cringe at the bad bike riding habits I see in town as much as the bad driving. We simply don’t know what happened given the limited info provided here. If nothing else, it should be a reminder to parents to ensure their kids wear helmets, are highly visible, and to never assume a car sees them. It’s unfortunate that it has to be that way, but that’s the reality.
