Verona Schools Superintendent Dr. Rui Dionisio sent an email to parents late Sunday evening after the school received information regarding a threat to Verona High School:
December 8, 2019
Dear Verona Community Members,
At approximately 8:30 p.m. this evening, the Verona Public Schools administration received information about a potential threat to Verona High School. The alleged threat came in the form of an electronic communication referencing a school shooting. District administration immediately contacted the Verona Police Department about the alleged threat and an active investigation immediately ensued.
I have been in close communication with Chief Kiernan of the Verona Police Department and members of his team throughout the evening. The Verona Police Department has shared with me that the alleged suspect is currently in custody and it has been confirmed that there is no threat to the Verona Public Schools or the Verona community.
The Verona Public Schools and the Verona Police Department take these matters extremely seriously and will do everything within our power to ensure that our schools and our community continue to be a safe place for all of our students, for all of our staff, and for our entire community.
I would like to thank all of the students, parents, and community members who remained vigilant and immediately notified our school and police personnel about this matter. To state that your efforts are greatly appreciated is an understatement. As a community, when we see something or hear something, we must say something and report it to our schools and law enforcement. I would also like to extend our deepest appreciation to Chief Kiernan and the Verona Police Department who swiftly and most effectively addressed this matter to ensure the safety of the Verona community.
The Verona Public Schools are safe and will operate on a normal schedule on Monday, December 9th. The Verona Police Department will have an increased presence at Verona High School and all of our schools as an additional precaution. Thank you for your continued support and cooperation. As always, please feel free to contact me should you have any questions or concerns.
Dr. Rui Dionisio
Superintendent of Schools
