Name: Katie Rotio
Where do you live? Bloomfield
Where did you grow up? I grew up in Melrose, MA, a suburb of Boston.
How do you make a living? OR What is your everyday passion? I am the owner of Katherine Elizabeth Events. I am a graphic designer and paper artist, and I just opened a new office in Glen Ridge. I primarily design wedding and event invitations and stationery, but I am also a paper florist; I create realistic paper flowers for weddings and home décor, as well as large scale flowers for retail and commercial installations.
What’s your idea of a perfect weekend day? I am a New England girl, so I love the four seasons. In spring it would be a morning spent gardening and an afternoon sipping cocktails on my deck with friends. In summer, it would be a day at the beach followed by a huge lobster roll. In fall, it has to be a morning walk in the woods and an afternoon food/beer festival, and in winter it’s the day we go cut down and then decorate our Christmas tree, preferably in a light flurry!
What’s on your nightstand? A glass of water, a carved gourd filled with hairties and ear plugs, and a box of tissues.
What are you listening to? Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker. Always gets me in the holiday spirit!
What talent you would most like to have? I’d love to be able to sing really well. Like, Broadway level. I’m a dancer (I have my college degree in dance!) but if I could have done anything with my life I would have loved to have been on Broadway…I just didn’t have the pipes.
What’s the worst-kept (or best-kept!) secret about Bloomfield? I don’t really want to share it, but 23 Skiddoo Café is the best coffee shop ever. Also, the US post office on Grove Street in South Bloomfield has the best staff, there’s never a line, and you can usually park right out in front…again, I hope I don’t regret sharing!
What do you hope they say about you at your funeral? That I lived a full life, brought joy to others, and brought people together.
