Montclair Schools: Staff Member In Self-Quarantine, District Cancelling All Field Trips

A letter from Montclair Pubic Schools was sent home to parents regarding a staff member awaiting test results for COVID-19 and the cancellation of school tours and field trips.

Dear Families/Caregivers and Staff,

RE: COVID – 19 Notification No. 3

We have been advised that one of our staff members tested today for COVID-19. This staff member is in self-quarantine at home until her laboratory results are returned. The Montclair Department of Health has advised us that this will not impact schools at this time. Our custodial staff sanitized each school building this past weekend, and this staff member has not been in a school building since Thursday of last week.

Last week, we established a crisis leadership team to prepare, plan, and respond to the challenges presented by COVID-19. With careful thought and consideration to all aspects of our students’ learning experience, as well as the health and safety of our students and staff, we have decided to cancel the following upcoming field trips for the remainder of the school year:

  • All overnight trips
  • All trips to indoor venues with large crowds (including but not limited to: museums, theatre, historical sites)
  • Outdoor trips to large venues such as amusement parks
  • At this time, spring and end-of-year outdoor school picnics, pool parties and local park events will not be cancelled unless guidelines change

  • Local trips to small venues with only Montclair students in attendance may continue (Crane House, Library, Montclair Art Museum, etc.)
  • Additionally, all school tours from tonight, March 9, through the end of the tour schedule on March 19 are cancelled.

We are in communication with the Department of Health on a daily basis and will continue to communicate information we receive about the impact here in our community as quickly as we can. We will post all updates to our website as well.

Sincerely,

Dr. Nathan N. Parker

Interim Superintendent of Schools

And

Ms. Betty Strauss

District Supervisor of Nursing
