Aging in Montclair Introduces Phone Friends, Helping Members Stay Connected During COVID-19 Distancing

Aging in MontclairIn their search for ways to keep people connected while we are all physically separated, Aging in Montclair would like to introduce the idea of ”Phone Friends’.

As a Phone Friend, you will be paired with another member with whom you can trade phone calls on a regular basis. Many of us have been keeping in touch with family members and friends, but as our social isolation goes on, you might enjoy getting to know someone new. You and your phone buddy will be able to have conversations about travel, hobbies or various interests, and share stories about family and other experiences.

AIM will try to pair people with similar interests, and they will certainly help you get started with this new format.

Also, AIM’s Conversations on Aging in Community Groups, Widow/Widowers Group, and Caregivers Support Group are now meeting via teleconferencing or videoconferencing. People currently in the groups have found these virtual meetings comforting and helpful.

For people who are not comfortable with the technology, AIM will help you get started.

If you would like to participate in one of these programs or just want more information, please send an email with your name and phone number and the group name to aginginmontclairAIM@gmail.com or call 973-707-5088 and someone will get back to you.

Currently these programs are available to all AIM members; membership is free and open to anyone age 60 and over. To become a member, go to our website www.aginginmontclair.org or visit our Facebook page (Aging in Montclair, Inc.) You can also join via email or over the phone.
