Baristanet Profile: Caitlyn Cade

Name: Caitlyn Cade

Where do you live? Montclair (South End)

When did you move there? I moved to Montclair, with my husband and kiddos, about 6 years ago, from Jersey City.

Where did you grow up? I’m originally a midwestern gal – I grew up in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio (shout out to NE Ohio sports fans!). I also spent a few years living in Chicago before heading to the East Coast.

How do you make a living? OR What is your everyday passion? I LOVE supporting women – especially during all phases of pregnancy. I’ve been teaching Pilates (including Pre + Post Natal) for over 10 years, and my favorite population to teach & support are Moms. I teach Post Natal Pilates to Mamas who have just birthed their babies (with clearance from their midwife/doctor), and Pilates to Moms whose “babies” are teenagers! I teach in-home private Pilates + small group Pilates sessions (I’m currently teaching my clients via Zoom/video calls).

Coffee, tea or … ? Herbal tea (coffee gives me the shakes)

What’s your idea of a perfect weekend day? A perfect weekend day for me is getting some time to work out, getting some time to knit or bake, working in the garden/being outside, talking to/with my kids about life, clinking a beer bottle with my husband.

What’s your favorite local restaurant? Ani Ramen…I DREAM about their vegan ramen!

What’s on your nightstand? Lots of vegan + organic face creams and oils, a piece of coral from a vacation my husband and I took (it was the first vacation we went on without our kids!), a rose quartz, softly-lit lamp, glass of water, and usually some type of kids toy ends up there.

What are you listening to? I love to listen to Golic and Wingo in the morning. My music taste is all over…Mumford and Sons, Cardi B, Original Broadway Cast of West Side Story, Jefferson Airplane, Brandi Carlile, Lizzo, Tom Waits, Neil Young…

What are your current indulgences? I’m baking (and eating) a lot of homemade bread and vegan desserts. Like…a lot.

What talent you would most like to have? I would love be able to sing confidently in public – but, for now, I’ll stick to belting out tunes in the car and in the kitchen.

What’s the worst-kept (or best-kept!) secret about Montclair (or your town)? Best kept secret: Canterbury Park. The blossoming trees in the spring are STUNNING.

What do you hope they say about you at your funeral? Caitlyn was caring and saw me for who I was (and loved me for being me).
