UPDATE: Fountains of Wayne’s Adam Schlesinger, Hospitalized With COVID-19, Dies At 52

UPDATE: Emmy and Grammy winner Adam Schlesinger, songwriter, producer and co-founder of the New Jersey rock band Fountains of Wayne (known for the pop hit “Stacy’s Mom”) died Wednesday after battling novel coronavirus. Schlesinger was 52.

Schlesinger’s family had provided the following statement, shared Tuesday by Fountains of Wayne’s Chris Collingwood on his Facebook page:

“Thank you for the outpouring of love for Adam and his family. Adam has been hospitalized with COVID-19. He’s on a ventilator and has been sedated to facilitate his recovery. He is receiving excellent care, his condition is improving and we are cautiously optimistic. His family appreciates all of the love and support.”

Schlesinger grew up in Montclair, graduating from Montclair High School.
