When did you move there? I moved to NJ in 1970 from Calabria Italy with my 5 siblings and my parents.
Where did you grow up? I grew up in Italy until I was 8 years old and moved to Belleville, NJ.
How do you make a living? OR What is your everyday passion?
Cooking is my passion and the way I make my living. I am the original owner of Casa Turano in Bloomfield that opened in 1984, the original owner of Palazzo that opened in 1996 and Trattoria Rustica Montclair in 2002. I am also a partner at the newly opened Pizzanada in Bloomfield, NJ. My children started jarring my tomato sauce and turned it into a family business under the name My Dad’s Sauce.
Coffee, tea or … ? Espresso all day.
What’s your idea of a perfect weekend day? Cooking for friends on a summer night with a great view.
What’s your favorite local restaurant? My favorite local restaurants are Faubourg and Pizzanda.
What’s on your nightstand? A family photo, a notebook, an alarm clock.
What are you listening to? Mumford and Sons and country music.
What are your current indulgences? Fine wine and cheese.
What talent you would most like to have? I wish I could play the piano and hope to teach myself how to play one day.
What’s the worst-kept (or best-kept!) secret about your town? If it’s a secret, I can’t tell.
What do you hope they say about you at your funeral? That I was a great chef and an even better entertainer.
